good for Japanese filenames.

This problem seem to be caused that new xorg doesn't support Option
"XkbVariant" "latin," for Japanese 106 keyboards, but the upgrade
program doesn't rewrite xorg.conf to change "latin," to "106,".
Possible two solutions:
a) xkeyboard-config supports Option "XkbVariant" "latin,".
b) upgrade progra

VL Gothic, IMO.

Hi folks, thanks for your help.

I think almost all Japanese input method must prefer the vertical table.
I subscribed ubuntu-cjk-testers for this bug.

I've did some test on Japanese installation with Feisty Desktop and Alternate
CD build on 20070412.
I found there are characters missing in Japanese boot help screens.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot PC with Ubuntu 7.04 Desktop or Alternate CD
2. English boot screen comes up

Cause of this problem is that keycode 124 is not included in /etc
/console-setup/boottime.gz.
Fix Instruction:
1. Run the following command.
~$ sudo nano /usr/bin/ckbcomp
2. Find and edit the following line.
133 => -1, # Japanese

3. Restart console-setup

I found the cause of this problem is that the layout string 'jp' is replaced to
'us,jp' in adjust_keyboard function in
/usr/lib/ubiquity/ubiquity/components/console_setup.py.

I mean that when I select Japan in the keyboard layout selector I get U.S.
English.
I'm attaing ubiquity log in /var/log/syslog.

With Edgy Beta Desktop CD, selecting "Japan" keymap on gfxboot, but
XkbModel is "pc105" in xorg.conf and /etc/default/console-setup.
This must be "jp106", or we can't input ']' and '}' with Japanese
Keyboard on live session.
