The definition of serviceable is highly debated here. Is 10/1 DSL
serviced? Is 100/10 Starlink service? The guys in town get 900/40 Cable...

I feel the SPEED … the SPEED for BEAD.
Doesn’t have the same ring. Maybe if I heard Tom Cruise say it.
I still like the idea of BAD money from the government.

But if they eliminate the E, would it just be BAD?

NY State subsidized satellite installs in their broadband program, but I’ll
tell you most of the residents I spoke to considered it a cheap cop out. They
could already get satellite if that was what they wanted. Covering the
installation fee probably helps someone, but most people who could af
Ahh that makes sense. I keep thinking of SPEED.

Well he never did understand $42B won't get every single house fiber. It's
also a requirement to connect *EVERY* location.
I think it's great to spend money on fiber. But those last 1-20% of homes
where it's $50k/passing it makes no sense to fiber when you can build a

I prefer this to be the last govt money spent on broadband. So get as much
fiber built as possible for a reasonable cost per passing. And let FWA and
starlink handle the rest. 100% of homes can be covered with this hybrid
approach. Where fiber is affordable, build it. Otherwise use the more

Which always baffles me. In IL, we tax everything, but not that. I can't
imagine a worse type of tax to have.

I say if BEAD subsidizes the Starlink hardware and installation, and Starlink
is held to permanently offering a discounted rate for low income households, go
for it. But if it’s a subsidy for the first few years and then $120/mo, it’s a
short term bandaid and shouldn’t be funded with taxpayer m
