It would take longer to teach someone what to do than do do it myself. Showing someone what an OTDR trace looks like and how to find out of spec splices or reflectance events is not easily transferable. From: Timothy Steele Sent: Sunday, December 29, 2019 11:13 PM To: AnimalFarm Microwave Us

Buy smarter OTDR’s. The new ones are very good at analyzing the trace and interpreting the results. Mark > On Dec 30, 2019, at 1:21 PM, ch...@wbmfg.com wrote: > > It would take longer to teach someone what to do than do do it myself. > Showing someone what an OTDR trace looks like and how t

The problem is when you have bad traces that need rework. The guys go out in the field, resplice, re test and then you have to manually edit in the rework tests into the big files of all the tests. 216 strands, two directions two wavelengths. 864 files total. Takes some care to pick through

[AFMUG] Juniper routers

Curiousity question. We are getting ready to replace our Cisco 7206-VXR G2 router with a Juniper MX240 and just wondering how many here actually use Juniper. Trying to do some reading and figure out what I am in for in the conversion. -- Larry Smith lesm...@ecsis.net -- AF mailing list AF@af

A decent amount of us. Unless you need legacy TDM interfaces I would look at MX204 instead. Doesn’t have redundant routing engines but you can buy two (or more) for what a MX240 costs. Mark > On Dec 30, 2019, at 5:13 PM, Larry Smith wrote: > > > Curiousity question. > We are getting read

[AFMUG] UBB Question, what network point do you bill on?

2019-12-30 Thread Nate Burke
For those of you doing UBB, do you bill based off of the bits coming into your network destined for the customer, or the bits that actually reach the customer? I was just looking at a new customer who must have been re-syncing his gaming system, had his connection maxed out for about 40 hours.

What splice loss do you fix? For the most part we don’t see a lot of splices on the OTDR. The ones we do see are usually under 0.2dB. I can’t say I have a standard where we would truck roll at this point. Curious what others use. And do you modify that value when splicing ribbon (sinc
