The downstream to the ONT is a constant stream. It contains the timing and
gating info for polling the upstream. So, yeah, upstream would be tricky.

If cost is an issue, why not just put an Ethernet switch on the far side of the RF link? It's just 18 homes so any 24 port SFP switch would do.

Not saying you could convey a full gpon traffic load. But if you could just have a few ONTs stretched out there via RF it would be very handy. It seems pretty simple as a block diagram. Just a pair
te it without any layer 234 type of
stuff, you might be able to replicate it. Essentially photon to rf
then back to photon.

Why go to that trouble, and not just packetize it over an RF link? Do a new
GPON segment at the far end, or am I not understanding something?

I'd have to imagine the timing would get considerably screwed up and you'd end
up with rogue ONT errors constantly.

Not possible on an RF level that I know of but I have done some testing
with the Tbit SFP+ XGSpon ONT. Waiting on a microwave 80ghz link with a
10GSFP+ port to test running it directly with a SFP+ DAC extender so it
doesn't require an additional switch just DC and fiber to the radio.

I would probably take one too if the price is right. There are some on ebay
though. $499.
