This can be true, but most manufactures now just produce two tolerances
that are for low cost and higher cost...
They do make SC APC/UPC Male to Female adapters as well.

plastic sleeve where the APC ones need a ceramic sleeve. TLDR; green ones
will work with everything. Blue ones mostly work with APC but sometimes

Yup. It’s just a brass ring inside to hold the ferrules. I use the green ones
to pair up UPC connectors all the time.
