I seem to recall when the system was new that doing a "halt" would
also kill dsmserv... that is, shut it down completely. Now when I do
a halt, it kicks me out and the process is still running, even though
I can't log in, but it isn't shutdown completely. I wait, and it still
isn't gone. Is thi

I thought I had replied to this, but I guess the list didn't forward
it...
When we had this problem (not marking the backuppieces as inactive),
it was because the environmental variables were not set when allocating
the channel for delete. It made all the difference in the world.
For example:
Additionally, from your browser you also have an acrobat toolbar (in IE
and NS). You can save a copy with that, too. You are going to have to
wait for it to download anyway, and this is simpler than turning stuff
off or looking for temp files.
