Not long ago, I have the same question about the definition of this term
and here's the answer:
Data Transfer Time - the total time it takes to send the total backup data
from TSM client to TSM server over the network.

Hello TSMers,
I have a questions about TSM. Is TSM able to read data directly from tape
that use TAR or CPIO to backup ? What I would like to do is: put a tape
into tape drive and the tape contain data that I use tar or cpio. TSM will
be able to read the data and put these data into storage p
Hello TSMers,
I would like to open a discuss on how to migrate data backup by other
software or methods to TSM. There will be two situations:
1)Customer has already been using other backup software/method such as
Veritas or Legato or tar or cpio. Can anyone share their experience with
me ?
Hello there,
I have a question about backup on Oracle and would like to get a
confirmation. I understand TSM data protection provide ONLINE backup and

Hello there,
I have a question about TSM Space Manager. When a user use space manager
to archive a file to TSM server, TSM will leave a stub file to the original
place. When user access the file, TSM will "restore" the file from TSM.
So it seems transparent to the user.
If the user modify a fi
Hello everyone,
I have some questions about backup verification and would like to seek some
advice.
When I backup using TSM, how can I verify that the backup is good ? What I
mean is when TSM write to tape, how do I verify that the write-to-tape
process is good. I come from VMS backup. In VMS
u'll
get a bunch of errors in the activity log.

Based on my understanding, TSM does not support simultaneously write to
multiple tape, i.e. I want to write to multiple tapes during backup. If I
want to work around this limitation, can I do the followings :

Hello there,
I think this question had been asked before a thousand times but being a
new member to TSM, I'll still confused.
TSM does not has open file option and recommend to use Open File Manager
from St. Bernard Software to back up open file on NT. My question is:
Does this means that TSM
To all,
More information about my question.
The user wants to use LAN only (no budget for SAN). User wants to keep
most of the data on disk as there will not be operator to mount the tape to
restore the data. Backup will be done once a week or fortnight (disk to
tape for permanent storage). B
To all,
Shall we conclude our discussion here ? To me, discussion seems to become
whether Unix is better or Windows is better ? I believe there is no
absolute answer to this question. It is because there is no such thing as
"Perfect software" - software that works in all circumstances. It so
I did.
I had raised a request to ask if TSM can provide Bare Metal Restore. There
is an internal database that accept enhancement request.

All the replies are correct and they are the reasons why incremental
forever is better and need less time to restore. Maybe a real example can
help you. I had more than 8 years in operations and I can say that TSM is
much better. I had the following experience:

Spreading the I/O among several disks is preferred as it increase the
throughput. As RAID 0,1 is prefered to RAID 5 as each write is faster.
This of course is more expensive.

First of all, TSM is only an application that runs on OS. It is not a
super software that can work for all types of machines for all ages of OS.
It must work with OS to call file system to read/write files. Therefore, a
disaster recovery plan must have a COMPATIBLE machines at DR site. If a
