We just got a TSM server up and running (still in a testing phase but
it's running).
I recently tried to backup a new node I created and got this error -
ANS1329S Server out of data storage space
Now, the server only has an 80GB partition for data storage at the
moment. That is split into 7 10GB
It's set to "No Limit". The nodes in question are a Linux/x86 and I
tried a Win2k just to test it.
I tried backing up maybe 200MB off the Win2k node and that failed. The
Linux boxen is probably 2GB total.
Nothing big at all.

Log looks fine. Able to increase to 100MB. 1,284,608 usable pages (231
used).
Doesn't look like a problem.

Does the "Max Pct Util" have anything to do with it? Is this a max
allowed setting?
Available Space (MB): 5,120
Assigned Capacity (MB): 5,020
Maximum Extension (MB): 100
Maximum Reduction (MB): 5,016
Page Size (bytes): 4,096
Total Usable Pages: 1,284,608
could you explain this further? I only have one storage pool at the
moment. It's using the HD and there isn't any other strg pool to move
the data to.
Since I'm using the HD only HD cacheing would seem to be kinda useless.
Is there any problem with turning this off?
What about when I add a tape
Compression is off. This is a problem for all the client's I've tested,
which includes a few that were backing up fine.

Checked cacheing. It's off and has been off since it was installed.
There is only one storage pool which is 41% util.
This was working fine just a few days ago. There was no changes done by
me (The only admin).
The max. mount point = 1 for most clients. I didn't change or set this

That's what I had thought also. The people who set it up (set it up for
us while training us etc) said it didn't matter either.
If the licensing package was not installed can it be installed
afterwards? There is an option to install the licensing package

I want to setup the backup client to execute a *nix shell script before
it backs up. Actually it HAS to execute the script before it backs up.

The problem was the license's. I contacted Tivoli support and got the
license part of the server installed. After that the "reg lic" command
worked fine though I did have to restart the TSM process before the
license took effect.
It's running fine now. Thanks everyone for the help.

hrmmm...
I tried this in the Linux client's dsm.opt file.
preschedulecmd "/path/to/script/vpnstart.sh"
But kept getting this error for that command -

That was it!!
Got dsmc to startup. Now I have a new problem though.
How do I setup the client to run the script before it queries the server
for a schedule? It needs to start this script BEFORE being able to
connect to the server. It needs to activate the VPN before it is even

A while back I asked about a client that my server was unable to access
due to several different errors.
The problem basically is that it can't find the client OR it can't
access the client because it's "unavaible" i.e. busy (which it is NOT).
I've found that right after booting or restarting the
I have a DLT auto-loader (HP Tape Library 2/28).
It's a dual DLT 4000 (hopefully upgrading to 7k drives soon) with a

What I'm wondering is -

since each drive has it's own SCSI ID but I'm not sure. Can it

I have a Win2k 5.1 TSM server running. I would like to backup our Origin200 (Irix

I know there is a 5.1 SGI client and that's not the problem.
The problem is the Appletalk server running on the SGI. I would like to know if the
TSM client will restore those Mac files correctly.

Where do I go for TSM updates? I had an FTP sight but lost the link
(and the feeling I get is that it changes pretty often).

Also note that, if you use the built-in backup/restore function of
windows2k/XP/Server it also keys off of those registry settings.
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup
It is not something that TSM sets up. It is installed with the system.

I'm trying to run some select statements and get a summary of the bytes

No matter what I use, the bytes transferred always = 0. In the msi GUI

Is this a known problem or am I doing something wrong? Why d
I finally got onto the IBM ftp servers and can download the
server/client upgrades.
What I'm wondering about is client/server version compatibility and
licensing.
We have v5.1.0 server. If I'm looking at it correctly, I should be
able to upgrade that to the most recent version of 5.1, i.e. we have
