Hi everybody,
our performance problem has been resolved.
We had to apply the latest maintenance for
bos.mp.4.3.3.79
bos.rte.libc.4.3.3.81
bos.net.tcp.server.4.3.3.78
bos.net.tcp.client.4.3.3.78
devices.common.IBM.atm.rte 4.3.3.77
and now the backups run fine again.
What did I learn?

Hi TSM-ers,
I have seen in some previous postings that you have to be on TSM 4.2 with
your server AND client to prevent this message.
Unfortunately I'm running a NSM (Network Storage Manager) and TSM 4.2 server
has not been released for this platform.
Is there another way to let me backup files w
Hi,
one of our Server Command Scripts looks like:
/* Are there any sessions running? If yes */
/* define new Schedule with starttime now+20 minutes */
select * from sessions where -
upper(session_type)='NODE'
if (rc_ok) goto reschedule
/* Are there any processes running? If yes */

Hi Matthias,
you should get more!
We backup SAP R/3 4.6C directly to tape and get the following statistics.
Our TSM Servers is an AIX box (H50) with 1GB memory. Our network is
ATM 155Mb and we use 3590E11 drives in a 3494 ATL.

Hi Claudia,
there was some discussion regarding performance problems with
ML09 on this list lately (see the archives at www.adsm.org).
We had to install

> 3. bos.net.tcp.server.4.3.3.78
> 4. bos.net.tcp.client.4.3.3.78

Hi TSM-ers,
is the "ADSM Distributed Storage Manager Version 3 Release 1 Performance
Tuning Guide"
(July 1998) the most current performance guide for TSM?
Maybe there is a new performance guide for TSM 5.1 in the pipeline?
Kind regards

Hi TSM-ers,
Today I found the following message in TSMs actlog:
ANR2706E cscmdsch.c(1157) Scheduler database query failed: 2.
Is this a problem I should report to Tivoli as the message guide:
"They are considered severe errors and should be recorded and
included in a problem report when contac
Another thought: when you buy a NSM (Network Storage Manager - 3466)
5000 clients are included.
Kind regards

If this doesn't help - check permissions.
We once had a similar problem until I checked the difference in permissions
when running the CMD File online (with your NT account) or by the scheduler
(with the SYSTEM account).

Hi TSM-ers,
inspired by the discussion regarding the deletion of backupsets
I checked my recently deleted volumes and they are still in the
volhistory.
Unfortunately there is no DELETE VOLHISTORY TYPE=BACKUPSET
in 3.7.2.
How can I get rid of this volumes?
Kind regards
Thomas Rupp
When I run
DELETE VOLHISTORY TODATE=TODAY TOTIME=NOW TYPE=BACKUPSET
VOLUME=010016 FORCE=NO
I get
ANR2469E DELETE VOLHISTORY: Invalid volume history type: BACKUPSET
I think this is not supported on 3.7.2
Do I have to wait till I have upgraded to 4.1?
Kind regards

Hi TSM-ers,
how long can I safely store data on different kind of media?
For longterm archiving I need to know the lifespan of DLT, 3590,
CD, WORM ...
Is there a source on the internet for such information?
Kind regards

We are running ORACLE 8 and the backup is done via RMAN.
The deletion of the "files" is done by RMAN as well. RMAN has a catalogue
of backup files and this needs to be in sync with TSM.
What you need is a script to delete backup files on the ORACLE side.
Kind regards

Yes, if you can be sure that all backup files RMAN knows about are in this
new filespace.

Hi TSM-ers,
Today I've got a question of understanding.
What causes the following message:
Retry # 1 Expiring--> ...
Doesn't TSM have to retry when a file is in use on the client?
But retries for a server operation?
This happens on a Windows 2000 client with TSM 3.7.2 server on AIX.
