Can anyone share some understanding of the follow issue?
I have several tapes that appear to be grossly under-utilized. Tapes marked
FULL (and even 100% utilized) that have 50GB-60GB capacity figures on a
100GB AIT3 cartridge. Most full tapes show 90-110GB and a few where
compression is good sh
In my opinion, this is the best reason for using raw logical volumes. To
speed up disaster recovery. You do not need to spend time with dsmfmt.
Another speed-up trick at a disaster recovery site is to come up with a very
small recovery log, say 100MB instead of 5GB or even 13GB.

I too, have just upgraded a test Server to 4.2.2.0 (on AIX 4.3).
Noticed two minor problems:
1) The query process of a Move Data command always shows (erroneously) a
very large number of "Unreadable Bytes".
2) The help command does not format output correctly. Seems to be
eliminating CR/LF.

I manually move the tape(s) from the EE port and issue the following
command:
checkin libv $LIBRARY search=yes vollist=$VOLLIST checklabel=barcode
status=scratch
Where $LIBRARY and $VOLLIST are what is appropriate for your situation.
