I just want to check something - if anyone can help.
We recently decided to exclude some directories on some servers, by
indicating it in the exclude/include list.
One of our policies states the following:
If client data exists - 2
If client data deleted - 1
Length of time to retain

How do you tell when a tape should be reclaimed back from a backupset?
For instance, we have created some backupsets with different retentions,
example, 190 days, 365 days, etc, and have sent these tapes offsite.

I have often found that if the tape has some sort of damage to it or a
damaged file or a left over fragmented space, that a move data clears this
up - because many of the times, it is not actually data on the tape it is
fragments that were left behin
You will not see a directory structure for a backupset - This is one of the
features that I do not like about backupsets - another is that it is not
automated as far as being able to reclaim the tapes back - you have to
manually keep track of it - Anyway, the following is some help on this:

If you delete the volume and discard the data, The active files will be
backed
up on
the next backup, you'll only loose inactive versions.
