Active Storage Pools

Does anyone have much experience with active storage pools? My current customer isn’t allowed to reclaim tapes, so their inventory of primary storage volumes is much larger than their ATL. This makes client restores prone to failure because of the number of primary volumes that need manual inte

Hi Nick It sounds like you are between a rock and a hard place. Are the lawyers really allowed to obstruct normal operations like that? Not reclaiming will cause the number of tapes required for a complete restore of a client to blow out to the point where recovery time would be impractical.

I do not think TSM prefers either. I suspect they are very similar in the code because both are sequential volumes tracked in a similar way. Andy Huebner -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU] On Behalf Of Meuleman, Ruud Sent: Friday, November 08

That is almost correct. After doing this, shut off the old tsm instance immediately to make sure there is no conflict for the tapes. (Not sure if you are using a shared tape environment) You will first need to format db/log volumes on the new server (with dsmfmt or use raw logical volumes), th

I would just mark all the tapes that are not in the library as "unavailable", then run your "copy activedata". When It finishes, eject as many tapes as you can and put in other tapes. It will tell you which tapes that were needed, but were marked unavailable in the actlog. Change the unavaila
