Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I don't see in the client or server
logs any kind of stats for our SnapMirrorToTape backups of our NetApp filer.
Do I really have to script something that scrapes the logs and calculates
throughput? This seems like a pretty basic piece of information no
We have a process that performs SQL queries against all our TSM servers to
collect occupation statistics.
What is the minimum authority this admin requires just to be able to
perform these queries? Analyst?

None.
(Meaning you register the admin, but do not do any "grant authority")
And ANALYST doesn't exist anymore under V6, AFAIK.

Yeah, I just noticed the lack of ANALYST on V6 (still have 1-pesky V5
server to get rid of). Thanks.

This sounds to me like a nightmare in a University environment.
So, I was setting about installing TSM on my new workstation, and
upgrading my local docs on it as I went. I decided to see what y'all
have been doing on that, and found that my doc is now at the top of
googling 'tsm client ubuntu'. Whee.

Just general questions on Isilon backup.
How do you backup your Isilon, NDMP or CIFS/NFS?
NDMP FC to tape or Ethernet through the TSM server?
We are to the point in our project to figure out the backup bit.
Andy Huebner
We only backup via NFS (we have no ACLs so CIFS would be an unnecessary
and huge performance hit). Here's what we've done:
1. Partitioned our data such that we can have a large number of
filespaces that we backup separately (in hindsight, we might have wanted
to go with separate nodes, but oh wel

Our current state (in implementation now) is:

The reason I wanted to check time is that I want to query the actlog under
certain conditions.
If its before midnight I want to issue query actlog search= " ane ***" with
begind=today endd=today begint=18:00 endt=now
and after midnight with begind=today-1 endd=today today begint=18:00 end
Dunno about SnapMirrortoTape, but NDMP stuff is recorded in the SUMMARY table.
Did you look there?

Something like this? I haven't tested it, but it should be close.
select current_time from status where time(current_time)>'23:00:00.'
if (rc_ok) goto today
yesterday:
query actlog search= " ane ***" begind=today-1 endd=today begint=18:00
endt=now
goto exit
today:
query actlog search= "
I agree with that strategy for non-NetApp NAS devices - divide and conquer by
backing up one filespace at a time, using many proxy machines. (Your backup
domain controllers got nuthin' else to do at backup time, do they?)
Unless it's mostly non-changing data that you can replicate. Some of my

Steve,
What is your setup of SM2T?
Do you use it only for a DR solution or also a backup solution to have data on
tape?
What is your recovery method?
