Grant,
The time stamps are not updated, because a snapdiff incremental does not
deactivate deleted files. You need to do periodic 'createnewbase' to do this,
which walks the file system and updates the time stamps.

Is the current linuxx86 client 64 bit, 32, or both?
All of my linuxes are 64 bit, but another department has some 32 bit systems
out there and was asking. I didn't see any reference on the tsm client
download site.
Thanks for any assistance.

Hi,
Just wanted to try the new version of TSM, 6.3. As I ran out of AIX systems to
play with I started with a windows system. Quickly discovering TSM server can't
run on X32 anymore so time to find X64.
VMware system installed, 4 GB mem etc. Windows X64 installed, TSM package etc.

All of the Linux clients, to date, are labeled "x86" as part of the name.
No x64 client versions as far as I can tell

The reason we use snapdiff is to avoid walking the file system. Running a

4GB of memory for a DB2 based server install? The specs call for a

Actually this really isn't correct, a snapshot differential backup will
detect deleted files and will expire them on the TSM server.
Periodic full progressive incremental backups are recommended because "less
complete" backups such as snapdiff,

Hi Gary,
It depends on the TSM version of the client :
- Linuxx86 client is 32 bits only up to version 6.2. Note there are 2 API
packages, on is 32 bits (TIVsm-API) while other on is 64 bits (TIVsm-API64).
- Linuxx86 client is 64 bits only from version 6.3.

You didn't mention what version of windows you are running - As I found out 6.3
is not supported on Server 2003 x64 , and generated a lot of problems, has to
be 2008 x64 or higher.
Also there is a issue where 6x pre req checker does not properly check the
version of windows.

Robert,
You can not perform LAN-free data movement from inside a guest.
Thanks,

Well, at least not unless the guest has an FC adapter direct attached to
it. :) But then that would probably moot part of the advantage of using a
VM... :)

Allen,
Thanks for your response.
I did not include your option 0, because I was thinking "large file servers".
Your point about option 0 being potentially more viable if metadata is kept on
SSD is interesting. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with this that
they can share?
