When you run a command from your shell command line, the prevailing PATH spec
allows finding the command. Background tasks may not have such PATH
information. It is essential that OS environment commands used in
pre/postschedule commands employ full paths to assure finding the command.

We are in the process of migrating our SAS environment, including
SAS/Share, from a z/OS system to an x86 Linux system. We are

It's possible you run out of VSS space.
Is the server very busy with write actions during backup? If so you can
enlarge the temp space of VSS, or simply choose a backup window with less
write actions.
