If I delete active data pool volumes with discardd=y, it doesn't
remove that same data from other primary/copy pools?

Buddy,
Thanks for your feedback !
The setup you've done should effectively not require additionnal licenses : I
thought you where performing file-level virtual machine backups, which to my
mind, should require one licence per virtual machine backed-up ...
Cheers.

Before going to VMs we always loaded Windows first, then the TSM client

Hi TSM-ers!
I have to correct something...
I thought our Window department was using VMWare. They are not, they use
Microsoft Virtual Machine, which seems to be a similar product as
VMWare. There is no integration with TSM here, right?
Thanks again!

Michael,
I imply that by "active" data pool, you are implying primary storage
pool; if that is the case then deleting a primary storage pool volume
with discardd=yes will not only remove data on the primary storage pool
volume but also any copies of the data on the copy pools.

Mario,
As a side note with the installation of the latest TSM 6.1 Admin Center, after
installing the ISC make sure to REBOOT the server prior to installing the Admin
Center. You will run into issues if you don't perform the reboot.
Good luck.

ASR isn't supported on W2K8. At this point, we're using the "wipe disk,
re-install OS, install client, then restore" approach. We're also
looking at WinPE.
I've opened a PMR with support, and will share the results once the
backup/restore process is consistently successful.
Thanks, [RC]

Hi,
Our 3584 library, it holds 270 tapes, is full because we keep our exchange
backup forever. I had to checkout some tapes for onsite storage. However, we
come to the point that it makes reclamation very inefficiency since tapes are
not in the library. I am thinking to create a new Domain and
I think he means "Active-data" pools as in the storage pools you can
populate with the "copy activedata" command. (Introduced TSM5.4)
And yes, you can delete from active data pools without affecting the
primary copypool data.

If it is only Exchange data that is kept forever, you should just put the
exchange data in its own pool and keep checking them out for onsite
storage.
Since they don't expire, you should have to worry about reclamation.
You can leave all the other stuff in the library and let it reclaim as
needed.

With a devclass of file, a storage group must have reclamation run

Yes, I hope I can change the policy but that's the upper management decision.
I will create a new copy tape pool for the new domain.
