surprised if it had to retrieve all data from the TSM server in order
to be able to leave out the undesired data. It's not the TSM server

Surely not, just a waste of time, disk space and energy. I'm still
wondering who uses that ... thing.

I agreed completely with "that .". I have tried to use ISC a few times
with no success.
I was using TSM WEB Interface 5.2, which was announced by IBM as a temporary
solution for TSM 5.3, with TSM 5.4 and TSM 5.5 successfully. I addition, I am
using command line interface dsmadmc.

Grigori,
If deduplication is your driving force, you really need to evaluate

There are several out there and some have evolved to provide primary

Hi David,

This utility also provides the ability to delete these orphaned backups.
Do you have to use the RMAN catalog, or can I use 'tdposync' against the
control files?

David,
I suggest you to use the hidden "show version" command on your server, that
will allow to list the contents of backed up data on the server.
Just issue : "show version nametype=fsid" with =node_name and
=filespace_FSID
This is my favorite method !
Cheers.

Hi Grigori and Arnaud,
For someone that has been using TSM from version 5.2 or familiar with TSM we
can say "that ...". How about to convince new customers that the "old thing"
better that the "new one". They prefer use things new (up-to-date) and get
satisfied with what they have bought.

Or are your complaints about the version bundled with 6.1?

Right, GUI doesn't thrill us command-line bigots, does it?
Servergraph has web-based management of TSM where you can see what
commands it's issuing behind the scenes. Best of both worlds IMHO.

Hi, Steve.
Don't hang up the TSM hat yet. I'll bet one dbbackup to tape and two to
disk would resolve that issue. Or heck, do all three to disk and xfer
one offsite via network (ftp, rsync, something) and you can save that
last dbbackup tape as well.
