TSM Server: Windows 5.3.2.1
I had looked into SNMP but found it hard/impossible in our
environment to implemend.
The Windows Installation Guide states:
"The subagent communicates with the snmpd daemon, which in turn communicates
with a management application. The snmpd daemon must support the DP

Hi list,
I am studying TSM monitoring.
Does anyone implement monitoring with SNMP, whatever monitoring software
you use.
If so, can you give me some advices about TSM.MIB use ?

It is a free monitoring/graphing application that uses SNMP or script
queries.
I've created scripts to monitor and graph scratch tapes, database and log
utilization, and disk pool utilization.

Yes and it is not really a TSM solution, but a SAN solution to get the DB and
file systems in sync.
Basically we stop the application, clone the disks, and then restart the app.
Later we mount the disks to another system and take our backup. In our case
there are about 27 disks and give or tak
We thought about SNMP and also gave up.
We use TSMManager for everything. Great product - keeps getting better
and better with each upgrade. Free trial at their website
(TSMManager.com). Not affiliated - just a satisfied customer.

You don't list the premises upon which that conclusion is based, so
Yes, we are.
It involves setting up a second storage agent on the Windows client.
First, make a directory called storageagent2 in parallel with the first
storageagent directory (e.g. c:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\storageagent2).
Then, copy the dsmsta.opt file from the storageagent1 directory to th

However, 80% of the data I was considering moving is archived data and
long term E-mail retention.
And I was hoping to find an easier way to do it.
Thanks.

Good day all,
We are in the process of mapping out a plan to consolidate multiple TSM
servers into a single instance and a single library.
Currently I have 3 separate TSM instances using LTO2, LTO3 and SDLT320
libraries. Housing approximately 300 Tb of data.
I've been through a library conversion

Duane,
I would seriously consider leaving that data alone and let it die a
natural death with time. Perhaps do an export node on nodes with
archive data if necessary. The systems that are currently backing up to
that server will be simply moved to the new server and a full backup
done.

I must concur with Neil. Being in Germany places your company under EU's Data

stringent than what we have in the US. (In the US, 38 of our 50 states require

That was exactly it - my client version was too old! Once I updated the
client, the attributes were correctly displayed and the files were restored
perfectly.
Thank you Richard!
