Hi,
We have a Netware 6.5 Cluster and I find that TSM generates multiple
FileSpaces when migrating the Volumes to other Cluster nodes.
I will have ie.
Server1\Home,
Server2\Home and
Server3\Home FileSpaces on Server.
1. I find that I cannot restore files that have been backed up to the

Hi Louw
It's not actually a Netware disk that moves between Netware clustered
servers, it's a Netware Partition which can contain multiple disks. Just to
confuse you, the TSM manual that describes how to set up Netware Cluster
aware backups talks about a "cluster group" when they really mean a Net
Hi Jim,
O thx Jim for your input, it really helped me.
Now do you know if I can merge the 3 FileSpaces?

You need to examine the details of file processing contained in your
schedule log, up to and including any client compression indications.

I followed your link and found this thing quite interesting, but I have
problems testing restores from TSM Server - have you already been

There is also the 'chitchat' that the client and server do when discussing
whether an individual file has been backed up or is missing. That increases
the network transmissions significantly if you have a large number of files and
are not using local journaling.

I've never tried this, but the EXPORT NODE command has a
mergefilespaces=yes parameter. Might be worth testing?

Hi guys,
TSM version 5.2 running on AIX 5.2
To my understanding, data TSM writes on tapes can not be used because it
does not have any meta data associated with the data that is on tape. Is
this true? would it be possible, for example, if a copypool tape is lost
during transit that the data on
It's been a while since I actually looked at the content of a TSM tape,
so I may be mis-remembering here -- but it looked to me like TSM writes
ANSI-standard multiple-file tape volumes.
There's a VOL1 label with the tape volser in it, and an HDR1 label

Hi,
To enable backups of Oracle 7 datafiles and to separate these out from the

By default dsmcad is listining with port 1581 , on your alternate nodename opt
file you can put the entry:
HTTPORT 1582
Load your dsmcad -optfile=.../alternate_nodename_optfile
And to connect to this alternate nodename : http://ipnumber:1582

I haven't used it myself, but it works the same way as OTG DiskExtender
did.
It was mentioned during discussion at our local TSM user group; at least

Yes, your backup has only the stub. But the file itself, is still in

Here's a bit more on top of Jim's good explanation on NetWare clusters.
The cluster nodes are actually virtual servers with their own IPs. We
were seeing the exact same thing as you Louw as the NetWare TSM client
manual is a little confusing about clusters. We're running uniquely
named DSMCADs off

If you're doing an actual EXCLUDE statement, then yes, the volume is
getting scanned anyway. If you want to stop a whole volume from getting
scanned, just remove it from the DOMAIN statement.

IS there a quick way or utility at AIX level to see if any of the DB, log
volumes are corrupted. How do you figure out if the volume is corrupted.
Thanks,

While I'm waiting for TSM support to call back (IBMSERV telephone tech
