Hello all.
I'm currently trying to work out the security implications and set up for TSM
on the windows platform.
We are going to install 20 or so major TSM servers and 50 or more minor ones.
The organization is best characterized as a loose confederation of warring
tribes, with each of the
Just to satisfy my curiosity, can someone explain why my file-class disk
pools show a higher percent migratable than utilized? How would TSM
migrate more data than exists in a given pool? And which one is used to
trigger migration? Inquiring minds want to know...

Hello All,
On one client backups I get the following msg:-
ANS1802E Incremental backup of '\\fs2\f$' finished with 50 failure.
Preceding this msg. I get a ANS1228E & a ANS4037E for each "File

I checked these "File skipped" and they are all subdirectories rather than

To clarify: In my original question the work "backup" in the first sentence

Thanks Pablo, Mark and Das for your responses also!

You're welcome. For the record, it is Das who mentioned activating the

There is no command line client command for doing this.

The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked.
Try looking up the Q STG command and reviewing the explanations given for
"Pct Util" and "Pct Migr" with regard to sequential access media. Maybe
that will shed some light.

In previous 4.x versions to restore the TSM DB you had to set library to Manual
in the Device config. Its been quite a while since I've had to restore a TSM
DB (Thank Goodness). My question is with v5.2.x do you still have to set the
library as manual or can you use your existing device.config
In TSM 5.2, you do NOT have to define your library as manual to do a tsm
db restore.

Hello All,
I need to move data from an AIX filesystem (110GB) to a SUN system. I am

Hi there,
For several Oracle 9i databases, we use RMAN and TSM for Databases to
store the backups in TSM.
This works fine. However, both database backups and archivelog
backups go to the same storagepool. The database is about
400 GB large, and this goes straight to tape. Archivelog
backups are m

We have a similar issue. PMR 72319 in progress with tech support.
We are trying to read backupset file which is about 12GB in size on
Netware volume. It looks like that any size less than 4GB works OK, but
if I create backupset larger than 4GB and move it to Netware volume it
doesn't work.

-Use compression
-Use sub-file backup. (doesn't work on files larger than 2GB; otherwise
enormous improvements)
-Encryption doesn't hurt if you are moving the data over public network

-Don't backup system object every day (around 200MB-300MB). Make

in addition to this points, do make some planning & tests for restore.
Basically, your problem is full restore.
Either you can afford to wait long enoung to restore over remote line,
(learning about "restart restore" may be important)
or produce backup sets and send them per post to the
thanks for you answer, but active and inactive versions are only related to
