make the library "master" server highly available. So cluster the TSM

Thanks for your help, but I cannot find the "single tape-drive"

Any other hint? I'm desperate...
Thank.
Hi Braulio,
You don't need all that lb.conf stuff. You'll need the IBM Tape Driver
supplied at: ftp://service.software.ibm.com/storage/devdrvr/Linux/RHEL3/.
This will supply you with the necessary drivers for the Drives and the
Changer (/dev/IBMtapex and /dev/IBMchangerx).
Beware the drivers are
The default domain is ALL-LOCAL. If you add a drive our mountpoint the TSM
client should automaticlly include that on the next backup. On the Unix's
that's all mounted filesystems except /tmp. On Winders it's all locally
attached drives. Now on Windows if the security for the drive does not

We use it here to share 1 ADIC S10K tape library across 3 TSM server

it does nothing else. This has served us well. It's much easier to move

Hi all
I'm having a problem with one of our Mac servers (with 5.1.5.1 client), in
that when ever I try and do a restore, it gets a bit of the way through and
then just freezes. When I look at the server activity log it says that
there was no communication from the client for 60 seconds.
Any idea
Hallo,
we have an application (IBM CommonStore for SAP 8.2) which seems
to insist on the 32bit libApiDS.a, but we have only the 64bit API
available (BA&API client version is 4.2.3.3 on AIX 5.2).
As far as I can see there is no 32bit API for AIX 5. For the moment

Hi,
I have had issues with Fibre disks when they were cut into huge raw lv's
like this. I am no expert, but I think there is something weird about
TSM's handling of large raw lv's that introduces a serialized step (not
sure exactly, but it seemed to really bottleneck after I added two large
lv's.
Thank you very much, that's our next approach as we did try 2x600 LV's with
better success.

Charles

This was in a recent IBM redbooks newsletter. It discusses SATA performance
and to me it says that the tsm backup diskpool is not a good use for SATA.
Sequential volumes on SATA may be ok.
Hope this helps,

Hi...We recently released VitalFile on the IBM AlphaWorks site.
It can be download (for free) at:

We're excited to put this out. In the future, we'll be charging for it so
now's your chance. We're anxious for feedback.
What is VitalFile?

Hi List,
I am building a new TSM server to consolidate my 2 existing
servers.
The 2 existing servers are Pseries H50 and H70; AIX 5.1; TSM 5.2;
SSA disk and FC attached 3590 tape drives. Each server has a 40GB TSM
database; about 100 GB of diskpool's and they backup roughly 1TB
Thanks for the info about this technote.
I'm glad to know there are other people who have to deal with this
issue!
However, I believe this technote has errors.
* The sections (A1-A4) that explain how to LOCATE the tape that
contains a particular file backup version are correct and useful.
