I have a test server running on Red Hat 9. It is very stable, even though my
particular version of Red Hat is not officially supported by IBM.
Performance is at least as good as on a similar spec'd production machine
running Windows 2000 Server. The only difference that I have noticed is that

Hi Joe
If Navision is running on it's native database you won't be able to make a supported
online backup! You can try an open file manager such as StBernard - but Navision
developers say no go for support! So supported backup... shut service down - make a
backup of the closed database.

Hello,
I performed a backupset from one of our servers (Windows NT). The backupset
was generated on a HP Ultrium LTO drive, which is conected to the TSM
Server (also Windows NT TSM Version 4.2.2.0) via SCSI. The generation
process of the backupset ran 2,5 hours. Now I tried to read the contents of
Hi,
just tried the recovery of a Windows 2003 Server with ITSM Client 5.2.0.6
from MVS Server with 5.2.1.3.
I was surprised, that nearly everything works as described. After an hour
the Windows2003 Server was up again.

This seems to be a hot topic, so let me add another log to the fire.
We recently upgraded our test TSM AIX server to AIX 5.1. Then we upgraded
the TSM server to 5.2.0.0.
Unfortunately, I missed the part about having to upgrade ATAPE to 8.2.x
(it was still at 7) *BEFORE* upgrading TSM.
Therefore
We are trying to backup an as400 to our TSM server on W2k.
On the as400 are the following:

The only redbook that outlines anything remotely close to what we are trying
to achieve is the TSM on AS400 - it has a very small section on BRMS clien
For Domino you probably want the TDP for mail, so you can backup domino
databases HOT. Ive done this and it works well.
For non-domino related stuff, you need eiher BRMS ( from IBM ) ,
ROBOT/Save ( from Help Systems ) to interface to TSM.

Yes we had this problem it would take 4+ days to restore a 200k file from a
backupset. Version 4.2.2.13 fixed this issue.
IC34528 TSM RESTORE BACKUPSET IS EXTREMELY SLOW ON WIN2K BECAUSE OF
ILLEGAL LENGTH INDICATOR CAUSED BY MISMATCHED READ LENGTH.

I have a volume in my copypool that is a problem
it is access=offsite
location=vault
it will not reclaim and if I try to delete it, it say it is empty offsite and can not

I know that there is a way to Audit this volume while it is still offsite
how do I do that?

Hmm, I can't say we've seen that issue yet.
We are upgrading our TSM servers to AIX5.2/TSM5.2.1.3 and
upgrade the Atape (8.3.6.0) and atldd (5.4.8.0) drivers along the way
before we ever try to start up the TSM server. We have completed 2 of
the 8 servers so far.

Hi,
While Navision native database has performance limitations starting at
30-100 concurrent users,
it is an administrators dream.
If you cannot afford service stop / backup / service start,
go ahead with hotcopy.exe (this is a navision tool).
This will perform a hot fullbackup to a file.
Because
No, you must bring it back onsite and make it readwrite before you can do an
audit. An audit physically reads a tape to verify data integrity. You can't
do that without bringing a tape back onsite and mounting it.
Take care,

If you don't mind, I would like to add a question here as I plan to migrate AIX 4.3.3
to 5.2. I've seen on this list about if TSM 5.1.6 will work on AIX 5.2 or not and
there were different options. If it doesn't work, or only TSM 5.2 is supported, I may
change my migration path. Thanks for your
You did reboot and reconfigure the drives to AIX, right?

I believe TSM server version 5.1.5 was the first release that was suppported to run on

Does Owner admin authority class allow you to reset the password for a

Yes we did. Rebooted numerous times. AIX says the drive is configured and

quick fingers and slow brain, I really need a vacation :-((
The previous answer was wrong and misleading. The correct answer is:
you need at least policy authority over the policy domain (the node is
in). Other options are unrestricted policy authority or system authority.

Hi ITSM'ers
I'm running TSM 4.2 with a 3494 library. During TSM
start up I get several ANR1423W messages.
ANR1423W Scratch volume xx is empty but will not
be deleted - volume access mode is "offsite".
The volumes do show as scratch with q libv, but they
are never used. They do not show in a
TSM prevents from deleting empty copypool volumes when they are offsite
just to ensure you will bring then back onsite one day. When you bring the
volume back and let the TSM server know the fact, the volume gets deleted
at once and becomes scratch.
If this is your "problem", the method to resolve
bring the volume back onsite.
update the access mode to readw.
