Hi,
using Server A for Image an B for incrementlas results in one restore
problem:
Example Backup
day1 IMGAE Backup
day 2 incremental
day 3 incremental
Example FullRestore
= Restore Image day1 + incrementals day1, day2
The result will be all files you wanted PLU
While the mileage "depends on"
in many configurations you will be able to restore using
full streaming speed of your tape drive,
whichever type you have.

Hello all,
i want to setup a TSM-Server for a small workgroup. I have only one
tapedrive. Is it possible to have a primary tapepool and an additional copy
pool with one tape drive? I know that reclamation can be done with only one
drive. But how can i do the backup stgpool?

Hello,
Is there somebody who can give me some information about the command 'clean
archdir'?
How it works, what are the experiences, tips/tricks. I'm afraid I have to
run the command, because a client-node is running an archive-schedule for
hours, only on /usr (great amount of files). The back-up

If you keep all your backups on disk pool, you can have a copy pool for
disk pool on tape but if you plan to use a primary tape pool you are out
of luck. Can't have a copy pool.

Thank you for the info.
Unfortunately, we do not have a "snapshot/flashcopy" type of device.
Currently, these are FAST-T drives.
We are going to have to live with DYNAMIC IMAGE dumps that aren't
completely "clean". This is only to expedite the recovery from possible,
future, massive failures, l

Hi,
I am currently facing quite a strange problem and I can't find a clue or
solution to it. Some .dbf files are archived on a daily basis and the expiry

sure, tsm servers could share libraries among themselves as good as backup to more
than one library. what
Yes, we have two 3494 tape libraries attached to a single AIX server
that serves as our TSM server.
One library has 4 drives and is across the street and holds primary
storage pool data.
The 2nd library has 2 drives and is local and holds the copy pool.

A basic question...
tapes are non collocated
if you kick off a restore of multiple directories on a win2k client will TSM
mount a tape and get all the data off that tape for the directories
concerned then move on to the next volume, or does it restore sequentially
one directory at a time,
Can you retrieve the files from the command line interface using the -pick
option? If so, that would provide a circumvention.
While you certainly need to get your code levels up to date, I can not
think of any known bugs off the top of my head that are fixed in those
levels. I would strongly recom

I did a sizing exercise a year or so back and figured that it takes about 1GHz of CPU
power to run a Gig Ethernet card flat out, ie 1 CPU of current generations.
Thus 2 CPUs should be enough if your throughput requirement will fit on a single GigE

But, with the pricing the way it
Hi Richard,
If these files change so frequently, they will be backed up every day.
Thus the archive and backup cases converge to an expiry after a given number of days.
I'd suggest that you leave your directory excluded from backup, set up an appropriate
management class for archive as necessary
Rather than using "incremental" processing to push that data to the tsm
server, use "archive".
the exclude statements for incremental processing won't impact the archive
processing.
I tend to use incremental processing for everything OTHER than specific
application data, then have the application

The 1 GHz of CPU for 1 Gbit of throughput rule can be broken if you are
utilizing TCP/IP offload from Alacritech. The only
problem is that they only have drivers for Wintel and Linux. By
offloading all the TCP/IP processing onto a TOE card, the
CPU is mostly idle though saturating Gbit E-net.

This has nothing to do with the OS. Yes you can have multiple libraries

Thanks for the feedback Andy,
I have also tried the -pick option but the files are not displayed for those
dates, but as I said when tried the same option using a TSM DB of a few days
back, I can get the files both thru GUI & pick options.
I will definitely open an incident log with IBM support,
