Hello all,
I have an AIX platform that I know had a multi-session backup done.
However, the restore seems to be a single thread. What haven't I done?
The TSM client is 5.1.0 the server is 5.1.5.4. The restore was initiated
with the gui.

Matt,
The only way I have gotten multiple session restores, is to start multiple
restore sessions, and this only works if you are restoring more then 1
filesystem. You break it up so that each session is restoring a different
filesystem(s).

If you RTFM (GC32-0789-03 Backup-Archive Clients Installation and User's

The data does go into the archive pool. The specific archive pool is

Is it necessary to know the size of the original database and log for your
TSM server when doing a recovery or is it sufficient to just make it as big
or larger then the original before issuing the dsmserv recover db command?

When running an "EXPORT NODE TOSERVER=XXX", data ends up in the
storagepools specified in the policy domain for node on the target
server. This could be an archive pool for archive data. Data does not end
up as one file - if you export 50 files, 50 files are imported on the target

I recently installed TSM server 5.1.6.5 on AIX. Most thing work when I use
the version 3 admin GUI but when I click on the Storage Pools icon I get a
ANS1026E error message. I know the GUI is no longer supported but I was
wondering if anybody else has seen the problem and figured out a way around
Your question sort of answers itself in that you could create the database
the same size or bigger but you need to have an idea of how big it is in the
first place.

You can make it larger.
The dsmserv restore command will decrease the DB and Recovery Log to it's
original sizes and whatever is left over will be MAXIMUM EXTENSION.

This doesn't make complete sense. How do I move it to different storage

The configuration on the AIX TSM server is completely different than the

Thanks for the book reference, even if it is for ADSM.
Does anyone know if this book has been revised/updated or assimilated into

You can select from the BACKUPS table.
One of the columns is "filespace_name", so you can restrict your queries to

You can do a Select on the Contents table for the filespace; but there's
a lot of overhead in the query. I would instead try a quicker query:

Thank you. The 5.1 version of the "Getting Started" manual includes the
same statement. We are running OS/390 Release 9.
Can you provide us with more details? For example, what is the content of
the dsmserv.err file when the server crashes? Are you experiencing blue
screens on the server machine or is TSM crashing? Do you have a pmr open
with IBM support that you could provide for me to look at?

If you're running TDP for R3, aka BACKINT, try
backint -f password -p
in the foreground and it'll prompt you for a password. When you enter it,
it'll be stored in the file.

What you might want to do is enable journal based backups on the client,
this usually speeds up things a lot. On nodes with lot of small files,
finding the files that need backing-up is usually the bottleneck

I couldn't get this syntax to work, but I was able to create an opt
file with a DOMAIN SYSTEMOBJECT statement, and an 'include.encrypt *'
statement in it. Pointing to that optfile with the
-optfile=different-dsm.opt file did allow me to backup and encrypt the
systemobject.

Some time ago we made an upgrade to version 5.1 because of 'uniquetecevents'

TSM started to mark all TEC events as standard 'TSM_SERVER_EVENT' and
