Hi Zlatko!
This is 'normal behavior'. When backups go to a 100% full diskpool TSM tries
to allocate storage in the nextstgpool defined for your diskpool, which is
probably your primary tapepool. So all backups are going to wait for
mountpoint in the tapepool. That's why the client backups seem to

Any data you write with TSM requires BOTH a TSM server and a TSM client to
recover, and the TSM server has to be running a copy of the data base that
was active at the time you did the archive. The TSM data is not
retrieveable without the data base.

Just a minor quibble here, Eric --
The backups WILL go back to the disk pool if there is space - but AFTER
processing the one file that required the media mount. TSM looks for space
for each object as it comes in, and decides for that one object which pool
to use.

Hi Everyone,
I am investigating the creation of an enterprise backup solution based on
both distributed NT TSM servers and a MVS TSM Server. One of the key points
to my question is the fact that we will be using enterprise storage devices
that are accessible from both the MVS Side(via ESCON) and
Dear Vint,
as wanda pointed out you need TSM server and client to retrieve data from
an archive.
If you do a backup instead, you can create a backup set. To restore this
backup set you need only the TSM client.
Just thought this will help you.

All,
I'm a former ADSM administrator and I've been away from it for a few years.
I would appreciate any comments/thoughts from folks who have used ADSM in

No, the TSM server on MVS will not be able to back this up. If you were
running another NT, or AIX and Solaris and eventually HP-UX TSM server
then there is a way to do this, but not on MVS.

Brian, I am running this configuration and it is working well.
We had some problems at 4.2.0 of tsm server, but 4.2.1 cleared them up.
4.2.1 is ptfs uq58439 - 442.
I never ran 4.1 in production, went from 3.7.4 directly to 4.2.0.
You can contact me directly if you have other questions.

Hi fellow TSMers,
I use an ACSLS (STK 9360) library with my TSM server (4.2.1 on AIX). It had
been great news for me to hear that as of v4.2.0 TSM supports ACSLS library

thinking about it many times, I still can't figure out
