Over the past month (maybe longer, my memory is whacked) or so, we have had an
increasing frequency of the NT server's passwords going out of sync, with no
apparent reason.
I find this in the dsmerror.log

Great idea, Miles. Some of my installations use older technology, e.g DLT

way the investment in old technology is redeployed. With DLT and 8mm you
don't have the slow-as-molasses reclamation processing if these

Hi,
I assumed that the domain= on import referred to domains on the export
volume that you want to import, not that I see much use for this. Whenever I have
imported to a different domain I had the new domain already defined with the
node registered and then imported the data from the export volu

Thanks for the response it is very helpful, my next question is that when I

when this is done does this completely discount the other tapes from being

Hi Steve!
Reliable contacts at IBM seriously doubt whether the Accelis will ever be

We have been using ADSM and TSM to back up a number of OpenMail servers
running under HP-UX. OpenMail stores messages in a database implemented as a
large collection of small Unix files. A sound backup requires a
self-consistent snapshot of the entire collection of files. We have been able

Hi Paul!
I don't know anything about AIT. We are currently using 3570 because of it's
fast data access times, but we need a larger library. Since we are already
using the largest one (3575-L32) our only option was to use more libraries.
Not something you would like to do in a TSM configuration.

sorry if this is a silly suggestion, but check your maxscratch on the copy

Hi there,
I would like to know how to install TSM Client Acceptor under 4.12? I
noticed that if old tivoli box has tsm client acceptor service exists then
there is no problem with tsm 4.12upgrade. However if this is a brand new
computer, when I installed tsm 4.12 client , tsm client acceptor
Hi to all, any body know how can i delete a backupset ?. This is expired,
but it still in the volumen history (i think that is in the Volhistory DB

Yeah, don't run awk, but rather nawk. I think the syntax for running that
is in the script file provided with DRM.

Since it's all AIX, you will be able to restore the old TSM database on the

I called the same problem into TSM support. There isn't a way to delete
these backupsets. There is an APAR out for this problem and they say it
should be fixed in TSM 4.1.3 which is supposed to be released the end of
this month.

Here is a real general question . . . . .
How do you handle tsm upgrade testing?
When a new release comes out do you:
a) dump it on you server, upgrade and see if it works?
b) create a test instance and try it out first?
Related questions:
1) I know you can have multiple tsm instances runn
Joe,
On SUN platforms you have to use nawk, not awk to process the DRM plan
file. They are different versions and nawk is compatible with the industry
standard awk.

Michael - Two final things I would check:
1. That the library which the rpm listing says is installed, is actually
in the usual place:
/usr/lib/libstdc++-l
Do you mean other than using the DELete BACKUPSET command on the TSM

This might be why you are getting these errors in the dsmerror.log: Within
one dsmc session, 3 consequentive query backups are issued with quotes
surrounding the filespeciation with a wildcard and the 2nd query command
uses the options -todate and -fromdate.
For example:
# dsmc -se=ewat

You haven't said if you are running the db2adutl commmand to
expire old backup versions. Db2 backups are saved with a timestamp
so each db2 backup is an 'active version' The only way they become
inactive and eligible for expiration is if you run the db2adutl command
that deletes the backups.
Ja
DB2 backups as with most database backups are not deleted by directly by *SM. us

I always just use the entire range. It's only asking for tapes with the
insertion catagory within the VOLRANGE. Doesn't hurt to specify the entire
range. That way I just have 1 command I use.
