Peter,
I have had an open issue with both Novell and IBM concerning this topic.
We only have the problem with the TSM 3.7 client and Netware 5.1. This
issue, according to IBM is a Novell issue.I just received an update from
IBM on this yesterday which follows.
IC28444 APAR - NDS BACKUP CONSUMES
A companion parameter to COMPRESSION on the TSM Client is COMPRESSALWAYS.
The default value is YES. So, by default, files will be compressed even if
the file size increases. To stop compression and resend the file,
COMPRESSALWAYS=NO must be specified.

There is the manual Tivoli Storage Manager Trace Facility Guide (mine is

you can find it out on the website with other manuals, try

Is there a client for LINUX in *sm? If so where can I get it?
Hi Terry,
There are (up to) 2 COPY GROUPS for each management class. One for backups
and one for archives.
Therefore, you just have to specify the appropriate storage pool for each of
them.
The command DEFINE COPYGROUP has a parameter TYPE=BACKUP (default) or
TYPE=ARCHIVE.
You can look at HELP D
define a management class, make it not the default, set the archive copy
group to point towards a new storage pool (and I wouldn't even put in a
backup copy group) now you could make this new storage pool, disk, then a

Yep, working as designed... this is why you might want to alter your

they probably in the end aren't gettin backed up anyway)

Hi all,
The 'old' redbook "Getting started with ADSM: A practical Implemantation

Larry,
Instead of "move data" to move data from old stgpools into the new stgpools,
it might be easier for you to set the old stgpools to
"nextstgpool=newstgpool", then set your migration levels to 0.
For copypools, since they don't have nextstgpool, instead of doing "move
data", you can just ba
Thanks for the info.
Nice thought, but there probably isn't going to be a time when these files
are "not in use", so fuzzy is better than no backup, in this case!!
IMHO, I think this is a screwball way of doing things. I guess I am too
accustomed to the MVS way"check to see if file is in use
Thanks for the enlightenment !!!

Hi Alex:
I probably would not try the migration method because of the massive amount of data in
the existing storage pools, although it would be a simpler procedure.
The copypools will remain the same, defined in the existing tape library.
Thanks,
Larry

I don't want to disagree with the 'large enough for 1 nights dump'

I thinks in terms of utilizing resources to the 100% level.

Larry,
No problems, but rather than rename the old pools, you can just use new
names for the new pools and point the nextpool settings to the new pools
(unless there are a number of management classes pointing straight to the
tape pools). I'd then set the reclaimation threshold for the old pools
Nick:
Yes, your method would make the move to the new storage pools more transparant except:
- I need a timely return of the cartridge slots in the original tape library
- I want to remove the old storage pool from the original tape library and basicly
just have the copypool defined there, so th

Have you tried changing the management class for that file?
For the few cases where you KNOW the file is going to be is use, and you
want a fuzzy backup anyway, you can create a separate management class

Hello,
I want to use the subdir=y option to backup all of the subdirs

Nick,
Your answer prompted me to remember something I had been pondering.
When migration is performed, the strategy is to determine which client in
the pool is occupying the most space and migrate all of that client's data
and recheck the thresholds and proceed if necessary. In the case of tape
And before you use a fuzzy backup make sure you can restore a fuzzy backup.
If you can't you might as well exclude the file. That's even cheaper!
