Hi Reinhard,
We get these messages spasmodically (we had them at 3.1 and still
get them at 3.7.3 as well). Also I think Hanna Hahne reported
earlier this year as well. They occur only with archived files.
I did have a PMR a few months ago but it went nowhere because I
couldn't reproduce at will
I too find myself in this situation. We are currently running ADSM 3.1.2.40
on our OS390 platform. We ordered TSM 3.7 and received it sometime in June.
We haven't gotten to the installation yet and here comes TSM 4.1. So, we
would also be interested in skipping the TSM 3.7 install if there are no

You mean www.redbooks.ibm.com. But, yes, it is denying access, still.

Well at least that one works! ;) thanks for the link. Unfortunately I need
access to all the redbooks specifically the one relating to setup of a new
TSM server. Can anybody point me anyplace else? Everything seems to link
back to the IBM site . That has not worked for awhile now.

Hello All,
I plan to install TSM with new IBM Ultrum LTO drives.
I look for information if \"Advance Device Support\" is required
for 3581(autochnager) and 3582(libraries: L18,L36,L72).
Those devices are not yet listed on Tivoli web side.
(IBM says 358x are supported by TSM)

I am trying to work out the size of a TSM database according to the TSM concepts
guide which is the total no. of files being backed up * versions kept * 600B
*135% (for overhead and growth).
No of files = 234333
versions kept = 130
234333*130 = 304632
When asked when the restore of Inactive System Objects would be supported,
Tricia Jiang from Tivoli (at the International Storage Systems Symposium)
replied "Never".
I guess I will have to rely on Microsoft Backup for this feature??

The admin guide for ADSM says add 50% to the initial size of the database
with TSM 3.7 it says to add 135% to the initial size
Has anyone noticed this, does this seem right
Toni
For starters, 130 is a LOT of versions to keep.

Improvements to support for the Windows 2000 system objects (both
backup and recovery) is a high priority. Our current plan has these
improvements being rolled out over several releases during the next
9 - 12 months. Support for restoring inactive system objects is
among these improvements, althou

The ADSM 3.1 Admin Guide says "Overhead could increase the required space
up to an additional 25%". (page 351)
The TSM 4.1 Admin Guide says "Overhead could require up
I have found if you are upgrading tsm 3.7.1.0 to 3.7.2.01 for example you
have to stop the schedule service prior to the install other wise the
client may not work right after the install

Hi all,
Recently one 3590 tape become damaged. It's seem there is a fisical
error by which doesn't allow ADSM to read the tape label. So I can4t
even make a check-in of the tape.
As result I think the data on that tape is lost. :(
But more, my actual problem is to determinate what data

Could you be specific as to what the error indications are? Can the
tape successfully load in the drive? Is there an operating system error
indicating an I/O error
query content [f=d]
careful, this can generate a lot of output.

Just because 130 versions can be kept, doesn't mean 130 versions of
all files *will* be kept, just that if you "expire inventory" now and again,
a maximum of 130
Has anyone been crazy enough to develop something using
Inprise Delphi and TSM API ?
I've read de redbook about it, but I'm still having some
trouble trying to use the TSM DLLs in Delphi...
Any tips or free sample code ?!?!?!
Thanks

In AIX land, you need to install "tivoli.tsm.devices.acsls" filesets.
Here is some of my notes:
>>> update /etc/environment to include the line
ACSLS_SERVER_HOSTNAME=cajamarca.cac.washington.edu
>>> Define the tapes using smitty adsm_tape (smitty is the AIX
configuration tool)

To my chagrin, I have just discovered that there is no client for SunOS 5.7
on Intel. Am I just out of luck, or is there some work-around for
this? Thanks.

thank you for all those response. I will re-visit customer on Friday
evening and repeat the installation.
If there is still problem during installation or dsmc execution, I will
stop the other processes (eg Arcserve) one by one for problem isolation.
Thank you.

Hi Eric,
I am probably covering ground that's already been covered, but
thought I would throw in my "two cents" anyway.
1) You mention installing 3.7.2.0, but hopefully you really mean
3.7.2.01 (or higher). Of the 3.7.2 levels, I recommend
3.7.2.16. Do not, under any circumstances, install
Search the archives at www.adsm.org because there was talk about a
workaround about 6 months - 12 months ago. It had something to do
with using the SCO client or another x86 based client I think.
