Ok, maybe my environments are odd balls but I don't see where you are
allowed to use the "vollist=file:x" option with checkout libvol.
and I never do it that way... I just do a bunch of normal checkouts in the
form of a macro

Just another note on Ethernet vs rs232
I've seen our lan have so much traffic that it has hampered
communications between the RS6000 and the 3494...this type of connection
is also subject to any adverse changes between the rs6000 and the

Not having read this thread... but RS232 does not have the performance
of Ethernet...
The line drivers in RS232 may be pushable to 250kb/s (0.25mb/s),
depending on the capacitance of the cable, but Ethernet can go 10mb/s,
or 100mb/s with Fast Ethernet. I also don't see a serial UART going
that
For the *really* lazy, what I do is remove the volumes from the library, and
then run audit libr checkl=bar.

Hi There,
We have a bunch of Solaris HA (clusters). We want to run two DSMC SCHEDULES, one
to backup the local system, the other the backup the 20 odd filesystems that can float
between the HA nodes.
We want to backup the data under separate TSM node names.
What's the best way

We have configuring 2 Domino Server 4.62 with OS Microsoft NT 4 Cluster on 2
Netfinity 5500 M20 RAID 5 with Quantum DLT Drive 4000 .
Can you tell me more informations about Domino Server backup online ?
I know that TDP for Lotus Domino is not supported from MSCS. It's correct?
Thanks.
Has anyone tried doing a restore of the event logs. As the files are always
open, when I try to open the restored files they come up as corrupt.
I'm thinking of doing regular dumps of these logs and backing them up as flat
files.
TIA
Good idea. .. Thanks.

Thanks a lot.
It works - that's all I want to say about. We use it as a vehicle to
backup/restore
mailboxes from MS Exchange Server, because *sm is not able to do that in an
acceptable manner. Nobody wants to restore a whole Exchange Server to get a
tiny mail back, right ? So why not also backup the whole Datab
Werner, there are numerous reasons that have already been covered here why
individual mailbox backups is a bad idea. Maybe you should look at another
server. Were backing up 14gb in about 25 minutes on our Exchange server.

This just happened to me on Thursday, fortunately, our copypool is up to date,
I was able to recall the tapes and run a restore volume.
If you delete the volume and discard the data, The active files will be backed
up on
the next backup, you'll only loose inactive versions.
On Sunday, August 20,
The problem is, the files were deleted from the server, therefore, if I
delete the vol and discard the data, I will not be able to backup the files
again.
Therefore, I have opted to try to use the dd utilities in Solaris and
hopefully that will work.
Thanks for the information though :0)

Hi Andrew,
you can't have two DSM.SYS, but you can define different groups of options
within one, e.g.:
SERVERNAMEOBJ_LOCAL
SCHEDLOGNAME /var/log/dsmsched.local.log
ERRORLOGNAME /val/log/dsmerror.local.log
INCLEXCL /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/inclexcl.local

But we are basically on our own. Support is terrible. We co
Hi Terry,
Though we have considerably less data than you, I find myself asking
essentially the same question which I think you're asking (if I've
mis-interpreted anything, please correct me!) -- How do I get a

You can have more than 1 scheduler. If you create a script that sets
your environment variables and starts the scheduler looking at a different
startup directory that contains a different dsm.sys and dsm.opt file.
The script will need to contain

DSM_LOG=/new/path

The HSM client (if you have HSM licensed on your tsm server) will take files

Hi Terry,

request its return. AutoVault will also manage the offsite vaulting of

Whew! I'm glad as well. This has always seemed like such a basic

this issue.
