All,
Can someone who has TSM 6.1 on Windows installed please post an example of
what the contents of the dsmserv.dsk file look like? I have a server I have
to show some folks, and it looks like TSM crashed. The dsmserv.dsk file was
wiped. I've seen this before at earlier versions, and kno

Does 'df' show a full file system? 'errpt -a' may reveal indications of
disk or file system problems.

Some specifics... AIX 4.33 TSM Server 4 2 1.7 We shutdown TSM, when we tried to
restart, the dsmserv.dsk file was
magically missing. We recreated it and were told that the following files
were now missing: ANR0900I Processing options file dsmserv.opt. ANR0990I Server

dsmserv.dsk.
Solution - run "DSMSERV -k Server2" to specify the second instance of TSM
in the registry. Once I did this the server tried to start up but gave
errors regarding the transaction log being full. I extended the

Guys,
I am running Windows 2K cluster, TSM 4.2. Early yesterday morning the
server crashed and would not start (on either node of the cluster). When I
try and start it manually I get:
"ANR0212E. Unable to read disk definition file: dsmserv.dsk"

Each route has to start from some well known point and follow the signs
further.
The starting point for TSM server is fixed name file (dsmserv.dsk) in
predefined directory (directory where the binary resides). The file
contents serve as directions for the next hop and first DB volume accessed
Yes.
This file contains a list of the TSM server db and log files.
If you were ever to lose dsmserv.dsk, all you need to do is create a new
dsmserv.dsk file with one of the db or log file names in it. Since each db
and log file contains info about all the other db and log files, the
server could
Is dsmserv.dsk the only place TSM uses to locate DB and log disk on
startup?

Hi Bill , How are you ?
I installed TSM on AIX through Smit and selected all filesets as specified
in the last mail .
I have done this couple of time on AIX , but this is first time that
dsmserv.dsk is not getting
created Automatically . so I created it .

Shekhar,
You missed the step on installing the log and db volumes. You don't create
the dsmserv.dsk file, you let TSM create it for you with the dsmserv format
command.
Check Appendix D in the Adminstrator's reference guide.

If the directory containing the file is public-write, imagine what could

The TSM server should be run by root, and as such the basic permissions
needed are 700, though y

The first time I ran into the dsmserv.dsk file I was completely
confused. The QuickStart guide has 2 references to it: page 2 and 7.
Neither gives any idea of what it is or why you need it. The
comment on page 7 about this file being read from the directory where
the server is started is under
I found the same thing. When I looked, my dsmserv.dsk was intact and
correct. I cd'd to the appropriate bin directory for the dsmserv,
repeated the command, and was on my way.
The other error or oversight in the install for 3.7.0 was that COMMethod

I'm new at this. Do you have a dsmserv.dsk.smp file or your own example?
