The audit library function needs to have most all the processes quiet. In
addition, if you let it slap the tapes into drives to read the labels, it
may never finish... I have NEVER gotten that little feature to work (3.7.2
or 4.1.4.5). I do audits using the barcode reader as in: audit library

I have an STK9710 library (running as SCSI) on an AIX TSM server at 4.1.3.
The AUDIT LIBRARY either runs in 60 seconds, or sits and doesn't run at all,
as you describe.
The doc for AUDIT LIBRARY says it will prevent

"checklabel=barcode" option it will only take about a minute or
less in some cases. If you don't use that option, then it actually
mounts EVERY tape in library
