However, the filespaces were simply locked. Whether I tried to delete the
archives or backups, nothing would happen. The action would timeout and
disconnect my web admin session.

"del fi *" defaults to "Type=Any" (look @ Admin's Ref. Gd.). Try
the following variant:
"del fi * t=ar"
This will delete only archived filespaces keeping all backu
ent by: "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
