IIRC, the (analog) servo track on the 3590 is written by a special
purpose device by the media maker, not the drive. So degaussing a
tape makes it unusable for writing to again. (And worthless to anyone
who would buy it.)

Super magnet or Sledge hammer Thats about the only way. You could
write junk data to them but it takes at least 8 passes to really clean
them. If you have encryption on then you have nothing to worry about.
