Thanks to all for the suggestions. I am using OS mirroring because, as I
said originally, this is a data area, not log or database.
The doc ("The Advantages of Using Journal File System Files", page 385,
TSM Administrators Guide V5.1 GC32-0768-00) makes it clear that you can

--> Dumb question, but why would you want OS mirroring when you have TSM do
the mirroring between two Raw LV's
Obviously TSM supports only DB & Log volumes mirroring. The mirroring of
the random access volumes should be done by hardware or at OS level.
Unless in some of the next versions LVM is us

You could just format a bunch of 2G storage pool volumes. You know what
size they are and they format a lot faster.

Yes, I am too easy to satisfy. That's because after a weekend of
dsmfmt-ing, I'm declaring the thing BROKEN worse than before. I take
back those nice things I said last Friday.

I too, have read the manual, and talked to TSM folk, about RAW vs. filesystem
usage. I must say, that because of ease, I have always used raw LV's and
never had a problem, and get very good performance.
If you are talking about AIX, OS mirroring takes place at the LV level, so
it is a piece of ca

I'm not using raw LVs because I want to use OS mirroring on my disk
storage pools. Also the ITSM Administrator's Guide go
You are to easy to satisfy. I would like an option which says to use it all
and tell me what was used. That way I only have to do the dsmfmt once.

I posted questions last March about how to calculate the maximum file
size to specify on dsmfmt if you want to fill the entire disk up with
the database/log/filepool extent you are allocating.
The only answer I got then involved voodoo incantations, and magical
formulas
