We have a z/OS.e 1.6 OS running in an LPAR on a zSeries (z890-270) using
a single (shared CP) engine, single (shared) gigabit Ethernet (OSA

In addition to Richard Sims' consistently excellent and insightful
response, one should also ensure that the microcode/firmware levels are
up to date - but "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" also applies, as
well.
We have noticed significant behavioral differences between

Bruno,
That is because simultaneous write only comes into play during certain
operations. Simultaneous write is not implemented for migration operations
performed by the server.
Read the section of the Adminstrator's Guide entitled "Using the
Simultaneous Write Function to Protect Your Data".

Joni,
I suspect that, after the "Total Buffer Requests" hits a million or two, the
statistics should report a better "Cache Hit Pct.". The more I/O to the
database, the better the reported "Cache Hit Pct." should become - assuming
a "normal" workload, access pattern, etc.
Also, is this server ex

I think this is an excellent idea, but I'd much rather see "result set

world is already too complex and REXX is simple yet powerful enough to

Eliza,
If the CAD has not been configured (via dsmcutil or wizard) and started on
the machine in question, then there's no TSM client service to "do" the
listening - and the GUI B/A client does not listen, either.
You can verify with netstat, like Ted said.

Hello, Eliza.
Yes, I have also seen this behavior (with the 5.2.0.1 client).
Regarding the Client Acceptor Daemon (CAD) listening on port 1581, after
running the wizard, I change the MANAGEDSERVICES statement in dsm.opt from

I fully concur with your statement - i.e., that "As has been pointed out...,

Hello, Al.
We have much to share. We are OS/390 2.10 on a 7060-H50 (~120 MIPS) with
approx. 100Mbit network connectivity and have had many, long-standing TSM
performance problems. We are currently running 4.2.3.2. We have discovered

Tommy, the following must be true for the situation in question:

3. COMPRESSALWAYS=NO is NOT in effect for the client in question
4. the file being backed up at the time of the error
Hello, Thomas.
We run a 4.2.3.2 TSM under OS/390 2.10, also. We run it on a tiny little
7060-H50 (Multiprise 3000) and have an approximately 110mb/sec network
connection (that's a bandwidth measurement - not a theoretical number).
Furthermore, we run our OS/390 in a V=R virtual machine under z/VM
