For TSM 5.5.6:
- encryption for files only from client:
dsmc query backup "/" -detail
-traceflags=query
- for TDP for Oracle on TSM Server:
Q ACTLOG OR=CLIENT NODE= and check end of "backup/restore details
" lines for "Encryption: AES_128BIT"
Good luck!

Keith,
This is not something that the TSM admin controls, and it is not enabled by
node. The only way I know of to detect encrypted files is from the client-side
DSMC CLI. E.g., dsmc query backup -detail, should show you which files
are encrypted and using what encryption algorithm. I d
Can one detect from the TSM server whether client-level encryption is set on or
off for each backup node? Inquiring security admins want to know.

Just an FYI. The latest fix packs for the TSM client for Windows,
announced this morning, lack the JRE environment. That is, after install,
when one attempts to run the GUI client, one is informed that Java is
required, and must be downloaded.
We verified this in both 32-bit and 64-b
I think the answer to your question is technically "no".
The recommended way to move the metatdata is to set up DB2 HADR to replicate
the DB, which accomplishes what you want.
(If your DB isn't too big for your bandwidth, you can also backup the DB to
disk and ship the DB backup via FTP, but tha
An interesting side effect of something from the "freeware" directory! :>)

Hi Zoltan.
Been there done that, yes it works as documented.
I think the deal is that unlike the activelog, the old files in the
archivelogdir only get accessed during a DB backup or a DB recovery.
So as long as you don't try to do a DB backup before you move the old files,
you're good.

Refer to the TSM Admin Guide manual and Client manual for full information on
using firewalls with the product. You'll also find a lot of experiential
information in the List archives.
Good Morning,
I am trying to setup TSM to go through our firewall but don't know what ports
to open. Does anyone know what ports need to be open for this to work?
Thanks

Hi Zoltan,
If you move the archlog from the old directory to the new one before the
server has been restarted, you'll get a message saying that DBM cannot
start because the directory is not empty upon restart.
Note that you may need to restart twice : one time to update the
configuration, an
One of my servers is having disk "issues" and it happens to be where the

You can move only the archive log from one directory to another.

Hi everybody,
has someone gained experience with using TSM for VE (vStorage backup
server) on Linux?
What about transport-mode SAN on Linux.
Are there similar pre-reqs before mapping the vShere LUNs? On Windows i.e.
automount disables etc.??
Thanks for any hint.

We run journaling on all data drives by default for Windows, and rely on the
monthly patch reboot to give us a periodic non-journal backup.

It is enough to restart journal service periodically maybe by schedule. After
restarting it TSM Client scans all files. I think it is easier than run special
type of backups. We are using journal backup for all Windows servers without
any problems and very seldom full scans.

Is it still a requirement that an incremental -nojournal backup should
be run once in a while to pick up the pieces left from the daily
journal backup?
In which case if I run a -nojournal every week, what I can tell the
customer what the expected RPO is? One week? One day if lucky?
