Isn't that what the SKIPNTPERMISSIONS client option is for?

what are you trying to accomplish with your frequent diffutils?

I think you need to 'define' the new sequence step:
DEFine CLIENTOpt option_set_name option_name option_value Force = No
Force = No Yes SEQnumber = number
so: define cliento exludeiis inclexcl "exclude.dir 'c:\notsm'" seq=8
(next higher number) should work ok
update is just for changing a
Update client is for changing the sequence number of an option, in which
case you need the old sequence number and the new sequence number.
If you are adding a new line, use DEFINE CLINETOPT instead of UPDATE.
The line will be added with the seq number you specify, so you can add

Gill,
This sounds like an interesting environment. Could you share some of
the particulars such as what storage device is providing the LUN, what
server OS is using the LUN and what the general reason was for choosing
the LUN?

Speaking as someone with arrows in his back over this type of thing, if the app
can run under the 64-bit version of Windows (the app doesn't need to be 64-bit,
it only needs to be able to run on a 64-bit OS), you can load up that machine
with gigs of memory and your life will become more sane.
This kind of issue defines why a site should have a storage architect, to
select the best overall implementation of such storage, including safeguarding
against problems. Some storage requires only failsafe protection represented
in RAID 1 or RAID 5. Some requires multi-generation file-level b
I have had that problem also in the past and found no suitable way to get

Hmmm. I don't know about that. I thought that's what journaling was for! Now,
I suppose if you have a lot of files and a lot of them changing you could have
a problem. But I'm guessing this beast won't have that many changes...

I have an offline storage system that is similar to HSM with millions of

I had to fight a similar battle recently. It's amazing how an app cannot be
configured differently until multiple managers get an email from the recovery
engineer stating that due to not heeding our advice, that particular system's
recovery can no longer be guaranteed...

What OS?
Is the LUN owner going to do the backup?
Is it a shared file system?
Consider a storage pool just for this file system.
Use phrases like:
"It will be a miracle"
"Is a 7 day RTO required?"
"Who gets fired when it goes away?"
