One; licensing is by physical cores. Throw up as many VM clients as you
want; you still just pay for the cpus (cores) on the physical box.

Looks like the answer to #1 is No. ;) I've tried to talk a number of TSM
admins into this, and so far

The following conditions must be met to use TSM to duplicate a windows server:
The source and target nodes cannot be on the same network
The source and target nodes cannot communicate with the AD at the same time
The target must have the same name as the source to begin the restore of the
system.
I don't have anything to do with Windows maintenance/patches so I can't
answer. I will pass this info to the responsible persons.

Maybe already discussed, but were some of the most recent patches relative to
VSS? Since you tested with two versions of the client, I can guarantee, but I
remember having such problems several months ago, when the client would query
VSS on start, and each query took several minutes. After 5 to

Thanks for the suggestions.
Not behind a firewall nor running one since this box has a private
connection to the backup server.
This just started recently. It has been working. No, I do not know what
changed. Supposedly nothing other than the usual Windows patches.
FTP not allowed. Not running o
Check the NIC & switch settings - make sure they are set to FULL DUPLEX, not
Autodetect.
Also try FTP to/from the TSM server, see if you get reasonable results.
And check if you are behind a firewall.

We have come upon a strange issue with the Windows GUI client.

Since you are investing time in upgrading the client, why not go with
the 5.3.6 on the w2K boxes, and 5.5.1 on the 2003 boxes? A 5.4 server
will handle 5.5 clients, and you will not have to go back to the 2003
servers when you upgrade your TSM server.
I remember having this problem on some boxes,
We have started seeing the Scheduler service on Windows hang.
The backup stops processing, the Schedule stays started, but nothing happens.
The fix for now is to stop the scheduler and restart the acceptor. This is
only happening on a few of the servers and they do not seem to have much in

Do a search from the IBM TSM software site, and / or call your IBM rep
and get in touch with your TSM licensing rep.
THAT is THE best way.
However, in your situation all you have to pay for is the ONE VMWare
server its running on. Since you are not running an active/active
cluster the DB can only
