Hi All
I'm doing microcode updates from AIX on several tape libraries during the
coming weeks, and I've just done the first one on a TS3500/3584.
Using the tapeutil tool's "tape drive service aids" (because there is no
ethernet connection to the library - I know!) the library upgrade took 25

Could anyone please shed some lights on this
Collocation is either on or off for a storage pool, group allows more
granularity for those smaller nodes.

That is true and easily corrected, but what Richard details in QuickFacts is
more of a problem. Last week a user made a major upgrade and kicked off a
backup three times the size of the disk pool, which quickly filled, pushing
other clients to the next pool. Since client1 of a group grabbed th
We have found that if you have a storage pool's collocation parameter set
to Group, but you have nodes that aren't in a collocation group, TSM treats
each such node as if it were in its own group - thus, each such node's data
gets written to its own set of tapes. If you have a lot of

Given this bill along with the software maintenance contract cost we will
probably be forced to do the same.
I really like TSM and think it's far superior to most other backup products.
It's just to damn expensive!

Yes...Well the copygroups in the target server for both backups and archives
would both have a destination of ALLDISKPOOL.

Hi Larry,
Because of you specify "Filedata=all" means that all your backups will be
transferred to ServerB.
About if the data will be saved to ALLDISKPOOL is depending on how your policy
domain is setup on ServerB where node AIXNODE1 is belonging to.
Thanks

ServerA has a combination of primary storage pools, disk & tape library
managed using migration, etc. It also has a segmented disk storage pool
environment like AIXBKPOOL, NTBKPOOL, AIXARCHPOOL, NTARCHPOOL
ServerB has only a single disk based storage pools such as ALLDISKPOOL.

Hi,
In case of the password being out-of-sync you need to do an update
server ServerA forcesync=yes on ServerB.

Thanks. I would have thought there would be a simpler way to retrieve it on
the target server.

ServerA's devconfig file will have an entry for the virtual volume device

You would rebuild the ServerA instance with a blank database of the same size
or larger as what ServerA had originally. Then you
would define the server-to-server communication to ServerB. Once that's done,
shutdown ServerA. All the configuration information is
now in the DEVCONFIG file(s). Now y
ServerA backups up the TSM DB to a virtual volume on ServerB.
ServerA is lost and the TSM DB on the virtual volume on ServerB is
required to recreate it.
How is that virtual volume restored?
