The few spikes/slowdowns I recall were during DB initialization but others
have commented about some backups/restores taking 3-4 times longer than
usual. The CPU spikes are reported by hobbit/bigbrother, our monitoring
system.
Yes, this is a dedicated server. Nothing but TSM running !

What TSM processes are running during the spikes? Is it a dedicated TSM
server?
For example, if expiration is running and your DB is configured well, I
would expect 100% CPU utilization. On the other hand, if migration is
running and you are seeing 100% CPU, I would start looking for a

I realize that some of this has been discussed before, but I can seem to
find a thread on it and management is looking for
recommendations/thoughts/feedback.
On our new, big, beefy Dell 2900 TSM server (8GB RAM, 2-Quad-Core Xeon
processors) , we are seeing some high CPU spikes and are wondering wh
John,
We were having the same problem with long duration Exchange backups. We
used the example that Del suggested in a response to the list to run
multiple streams and it has resolved the problem. We are also currently
sending the backups directly to an EMC/CDL.

We don't seem to be able to run the TSM web client from Internet
Explorer 7.
Depends upon your level. Search on "IE7" at the TSM Support Page for
some info on that.
Chris,
I had that same problem. I had to get TSM Server WebAdmin up to
version 5.2.7.0 and then the opening in a separate window problem
ceased.

I think the supported way would be to Audit the volume in question with
fix=yes. When TSM finds the damaged files on the volume in question it
will delete them and they will be replaced on the next backup stg.

Just do a DEL VOL DISCARD=YES
And the next time BA STG runs the files that were on that damanged tape will be
re-copied to new copypool media.

Sorry about that I guess it is primary only. I wonder if a delete volume
discarddata=yes will do the trick then.

Adrian,
Just delete the volume from the copy storage pool and TSM will takecare of
the rest. In short, TSM will backup the data from the primary pool to the
copy storage pool.

Mark the volume destroyed then run a backup stg. This will replace the
files that no longer exist in the copy pool.

Hi All,
because we are fasing out our 9840C tapedrives, we have decided to keep
small files (phisical files smaller than 10 MB) on disk, and store only
larger files on tape. Th diagram below (fig1)illustrates out design. To
get us started and save on tape-mounts I started out with the

Hi Chris,
You are probably using IE7, the old WebAdmin will not work with that.
Use IE6 or even better FireFox.
