I tried this for a while, forcing large client files directly to tape,
but those big files are so awful to back up directly to tape that we
bought more disks. When a client session gets a tape drive for backup,

Try a commit statement before the line that is hanging, or run the
script on a session that was started with itemcommit. I think its
probably a lock problem on the database.

We have a 3494 library. In AIX, you can run the following command :
mtlib -l /dev/lmcp0 -qL
/dev/lmcp0 is the name of the library device which is FC attached to our TSM
server
Output will be similar to the following then scroll down to the available cells
left line :
Library Data:
opera
Using one of the undocumented SHOW commands:
SHOW SLOTS
Will list out how many usable slots there are in the library. Then
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM LIBVOLUMES
Will tell you how many you're using. Simple math from there. You can also make
a server script
Def scr q_slots 'SELECT <#slots>-count(*)
Hi Avy,
We have a 3584lib, and I would reccomend using the IBM Ultrascalable
specialist. It is the web-based utility for managing the library. This
will tell you exactly how many slots are available in the library, etc..
Very nice for updating firmware, and managing the library, drives and

I seem to have orphaned several tape volumes in a shared library. They
had been defined to storage groups on servers that don't manage the
library but had recently been reclaimed in the normal course of
business. Since we were low on scratch tapes these storage groups had

I have a macro defined to create a device class for 3592 cartridges,
define the library, drives, and paths to talk to the 3494 with two 3592
drives.
IBMatl, and IBMtape are both installed, mtlib works, I have is
Query the library by the Web Interface or the control panel.
That displays the number of empty slots.

You can find out the total volumes in the library by doing a sql query like
this,
select count(*) from libvolumes where library_name='ELTO'

If I do a 'show slots library_name' it will show me the details, but I
would like to know what is how many slots left. Thanks.

Hello Everyone,
Does anyone out there have their TSM environment configured to send alerts to
TEC? Any information regarding to what they think about performance, how to
configure (and how easy it is), etc. I appreciate the responses.
Thanks,
James
I have tried virtualmountpoint without chance (or without experience)...
I meant that I have one TSM for one FS (8.000.000-> today, 16.000.000 of
files-> future // 10 versions) This FS is represented by one node... the
first stage is disk... so when I migrate to tape, I only have one
process...

Does any one know if the xattrs which hold the SELinux context are
backed up? I haven't been able to find out anything online about it, so
I was wondering if anyone knew off the top of their head...
Thanks!

I think that we are not going to be able to test that... this is the
first time that we are doing backup of this 'big' computer...
So the next step would be to test small restores or at less restore
something...

Did anyone have documentation about TSM origin's ¿?
Or could someone tell me TSM origin's ¿?
Thanks !!
