sorry for the streak posting.
Aparently, I've answered my own question again for this one.
HSM 5.4 automatically recalls the file if you try to compress the
stubfile, and if you migrate a compressed file, it is decompressed first.

Experience, no.
Support, maybe. TSM supports 3592 drive encryption. It's important to
make sure you have some way, external to TSM, to store the keys so you can
get at the tapes in a recovery scenario.

Has anyone tried setting the FileAttributesFilter to 800, 4800, or 4806?
Will it omit if ANY bit is set, or only if ALL bits are set?
If ALL, then can you set multiple filter lines in registry?
The reason is that this filesystem may contain compressed or encrypted

One correction - recall on properties happens for executable file types.

We had an issue with Imation LTO3's. Imation's tape cutting machine was
leaving tape artifacts behind, so when a tape got mounted the extra tape

We saw a similar issue on LTO1's even with the latest firmware. We have
since upgraded to LTO3 drives and have not seen the issue since. Even
when reading the "trouble" LTO1's.

Is there any particular firmware I should be running in my IBM drives to
work with Imation tapes? We've been running Fuji and IBM with no issues

Chip,
I have seen many options here, but the first, most simple thing to do is
to make sure that TSM actually knows anything at all about your missing
tapes.
First, find out how many tapes you are supposed to have, total, based on
what has been purchased, minus what has been destroyed.
Second, f
Removing a volume from the domain only prevents the volume from being
subject to normal INCREMENTAL backup processing. Thus any active versions
on that volume will remain indefinitely, and any inactive versions will
expire per management class criteria.

Kelly,
I didn't see a reply for you on this.
I'm sure there is an HSM API, and I don't think it's documented outside of
IBM. Evidence of that is in the HSM for Windows which doesn't use the
Space Management API at all.
The type of information you are looking for is very much server-internal.

The API used on the filesystem side really shouldn't have any effect on
the backend implementation.
The reason it's different is because Tivoli/IBM purchased the product from
a separate company.
As such, HSM for Windows is not derived from HSM for AIX.

Not the path, but I did vary the drive offline, to no avail.
But trying a reset on the drive ( from the drive power switch) at least

Now to wait for IBM service -- the drive didn't reset and still shows an

I too have ran across this issue. Bringing down TSM was the only way
around. It would have been nice to have had a force process cancel
command, as I had issues bringing TSM backonline to see the drives in my
