I'm doing some testing with BartPE using a TSM plugin, and I need some
assistance.
I want to be able to restore systemstate, but that requires the machine
name to match exactly, and I dont see where I can configure that in
Bart.
Any helpful ideas?

You don't even have to check them out.
You can enter: update libv xx status=scratch
If there is any valid data on them, TSM will refuse.
The most common reason scratch tapes get marked as PRIVATE with no valid data,
is putting the tapes in the library without running LABEL LIBV to initiali
Check them volumes with "Q vol XX f=d" and see if they came from the
scratch pool. If so, you will see a line like:
Scratch Volume?: Yes
in the output.
If the line says No and the volumes are empty and they are not part of a
storage pool, check the volumes out of the librar
Try doing "q libvol libraryname" if the volume is listed as private, and
the last use column is blank, then the volume is probably scratch.

I have done the first 4 steps already.. What I believe is happening is that
when some scratch tapes were put in TSM tried to use them, couldn't and mark
them as private.. Is there a command to check to see if this is happening

First, get a reliable inventory of what tapes are in your library, perhaps
forcing the library to do an inventory beforehand. Do not use TSM for this.
Second, reconcile the hardware inventory against what TSM reports in "q libvol"
for this library, perhaps doing a TSM library audit beforehand.
Yes, that's what you do.

Hello Everyone,
I am having problem with no available slots in my 3584 library. I am
running tsm 5.3.2.5 and have 450 slots in the library. I also have over
50 unavailable tapes listed in TSM. I am struggling to figure out what
to do first. Does anyone have a suggestion to where I should start

Well... Only if the tape contains data from a BA client. If the tape
contains TOP data, you will have to reschedule a full database backup
for that client.
If you have a read-only tape you should check the tape by moving it's
data to a new tape, using the MOVE DATA command. If it fails, you can

I'm not quite sure I'm understanding *why* you'd want to delete the data
on the volume in the first place - if you simply wanted to return the
physical volume to the scratch pool, wouldn't a 'move data' of its
contents to another volume achieve that without getting the sledgehammer
out?

Just a note, Only active files will be backed up, you'll lose all inactive
versions.

Quick question. If I delete a volume to get it back from a read-only access
state into the scratch pool, will the next incremental backup for the node
data affected back up those files again? Does the database know that there
are no longer references for that node data on primary storage? If not, w

I am interested in taking the TSM 5.3.2 Administration class for Windows
My environment consists solely of TSM nodes running Windows. The TSM
server though is on Z/OS.
Has anyone taken this class ? Can you provide feedback ?
I just want to make sure this class concentrates on the client side of T

With TSM server 5.4 it is possible. There is a very brief chapter in the
admin guide about how to do that.

Hi Dan,

server version it will connect to? 5.1.5? 5.2? 5.3? 5.4?
Do you mean client or server here? TSM *client* on x86 Solaris has been
available since 5.3:
