HI there,
I've been banging my head against the wall for a little while on

I'm running TSM 5.3.4 on RedHat EL4 U4 for x86_64 (HP AMD blade server).
My databases are on an HP MSA1500cs on a shelf of 14 72GB 15K drives.
This is fibre attached.

In my opinion, you can get great performance with LTO3 and aplications like
db2, Oracle, SAP, Domino, Exchange, etc. It is a good idea if you want to
backup big files. I don't recommend you if you want to backup fileservers.
I have found differents performance. The best one was 1,5 TB y 1:30 mi
My experience has been different. Lan Free backups of our Oracle
databases run 4 to 5 times faster than over our lan. Systems with lots
of small files to backup did not show much improvement going lan free.

Hello,
Trying to connect to TSM using the JDBC.ODBC bridge.
When the connect is issued Tomcat shuts down with no error messages in
the logs or anywhere.
Any help or direction much appreciated. Thanks

Mark, can you say some more about that? We're hoping to start doing
LAN-free and I was hoping that we could see some nice improvements in

True. But I consider 12 I/O slots a waste for only 54 data slots. If you are
taking that many tapes out at a time, I would consider the library
undersized...

The 3583 does support 72 slots IF you are willing to use the 12 I/O
slots for storage. Otherwise, the maximum is 60 tapes.

We have three columns of 18. That's 56. My IBM rep says that is the max.

We manage everything with TSMManager. With it, we can easily move tapes
to an "onsite vault" (i.e. a physical shelf in our onsite vault). We go
through the list of tapes and pick ones that are 100% full, and eject
them.
If a tape is needed for reclaimation, a mount request comes up, which

How many slots are there for tapes in your 3583 library? If it's less

So, you ejected primary tape pool tapes from the library to make space.
How do you know which tapes you can eject? (The reclaimation process
uses those tapes.) What are the steps?

Yes, we are keeping offsite tapes offsite in the manner you described.

DP for Domino disables replication only if the database is restored into
an
alternate location using the -into option. If that is not the case,
replication
should work.

UmmmBuy more tapes ?
We ran for a long, long time with over 400 tapes assigned to a 3583-L72.
Yes, it is an administration headache, but it works (and is much cheaper
than buying a disk farm).
But, if you have the money for a disk farm, go for it. Really depends

That's what we are doing. Our primary is a 6.4 TB VTL.
So far, it's working very well. Excellent performance.
Main concern is if the device fails, how long will it
take to restore all those terabytes of primary storage
from offsite volumes.

Our IBM 3583 tape lib is out of space.
What do you think of this idea?
Acquire disk-based appliance i.e. 3 TB. Use it for primary. Use 3583 for
off site tapes only.
Please advise.
TIA

Does anyone know of a way to add this option at the tsm server level
for windows? Instead of logging on to each client individually to add
this option???
Thanks!
CAD starts the scheduler each time backup will run. And TSM reads
dsm.opt everytime the scheduler starts..
... But dont we think enterprise and use cloptsets...? :-)

Hi,
Oddly, the two lines of output you showed look exactly the same in my

But, I would approach the problem with a workaround, and pre-process the
log output to remove spurious crlf's before processing it further.
