Dear mario,
If you have 300GB of data to backup everyday, then you can insert your tape
into the drive and schedule all the client backups accordingly to be backedup

Still if you want to keep one tape for everyday, then you need to take
selective backups for everyday.

I changed the db backup to begin running db snapshots instead of fulls,

The database backups stopped expiring.

Mario,
1- In the first place .. how many client nodes are there?
2- How much space is there on your local hard disk for diskpool?
3- Your option of collocating the backups would eliminate if you run scheduled
backups directly to tape.
3-Reclaimation would require quite alot of space again on your

Indeed so. The fly in the ointment is that you don't necessarily get
the number of processes you specify, for architectural reasons.
See contemporary IBM Technote 1234463.

Geoff,
Which specific process are you referring to? I'm assuming you arent
talking about backup stg, which has had a multi-process option forever.

sure which release it came in at but it was certainly there at 5.2 and

Wanda,
Definitely try the systemstate backup using ntbackup - if it hangs, the
smoking gun points to a MS VSS problem. Note that the proof is in
actually running the ss backup, just opening ntbackup wont trip the

Hi Wanda,
I was thinking of a known MS issue that affects only x64 processors, as
Steve also mentioned this morning. But that is x64 only, so that is not
your problem.
Are you up to date on the MS VSS-related patches?
Have a look at IC47719, which is fixed in 5.3.3. That might be it. If that

What is the recommended policy for such an environment? ...considering

One of the issues I have had with TSM is the inability for it to run

Jeff - Two observations...
The posting doesn't say if the scheduler was restarted with the 1501

And assure that SCHEDMODe PRompted is in effect, and that the Node
definition does not specify a contradictory LLAddress value (port).

Hi Eric,
Did your colleague install the client with rpm -ihv (because rpm -Uhv is for

I just did a fresh install on Fedora Core 5 and all went well. So if the above
