Eric,
You can do one of two things:
1. Set the passwords to a known value, then before they expire on the TSM
Server, do an "update node nodename knownpassword" to reset the age of the
password. Since the password doesn't actually change, this is sorta
cheating, which isn't real good where SOX

Excellent hint. I think this will help me out substantially. With

Hey all, how can I assign volumes to a device class.
I have LTO1 tapes that I only want to use for DB backups. I have a
LTO1 device class defined, and a schedule that runs the DB backup to use
the specific volumes, but any other schedule can use them as scratch.
Thanks!

Hi Robert,
As I said, -filelist requires fully qualified file names. How you build
that file list is up to you. In the specific example you gave, the
solution I provided seems to be the simplest, and avoids the -filelist

Hi Robert,
the -filelist option requires a file list with fully-qualified file names.
Why not just do:
dsmc restore c:\index.html c:\temporary\ -subdir=yes
dsmc restore c:\default.html c:\temporary\ -subdir=yes

Yeah...
We just ran a test and confirmed that if you immediately remove the tapes,
TSM changes the state.
Unfortunately, we got an I/O error from ACSLS before we removed them the
first time so TSM never
changed the state
Must be a way to change the ACSLS time-out?

Does anyone know how to code the "INCLUDE" in the option file when you want

I got the same problem at a customer, but we decided to go straight to the

everyone becomes used to it. Turned out to be better than expected.

Helder,
This is a known problem; you are not the only one experiencing it,
and it seems to only affect AIX 5.3 ML3 customers. Another person on the

installed ML3. In their case, they were running AIX 5.2, which supported
First, sorry for not including the [ADSM-l] prefix in the subject, I
though it would be included automatically. :)
Yes, I mainly use command line too. But this is a customer asking. So
I guess I'll install Admin Center too and give them the option.

Where did you get the information about using 4-16 volumes? The
performance guide only talks about "multiple" volumes on "multiple" disks.

Hi,
within the performance guide it is recommended to use multiple db volumes (4 -
16) and multiple log volumes.
A TSM server database with 195 GB seems to be very large in order to reach high
performance rates.
Isn't it better to split the TSM server in two servers?

If you have the paid version of 5.1.5, you can install
the 5.3.0.1 version on top of it.
Yes. The TSM API 5.3.0 package is part of the Data Protection

Just create symlinks for them on your /usr/lib directory.

Providing I have installed the base 5.1.5.0 TDP for Domino with the Paid

need to source a different version of the media?
