You can't "force" the backup as you describe, but you can come close define a schedule for laptop users that spans a 24-hour window and have the scheduler service running at bootup. Use SCHEDMODE POLLING. The scheduler will try to contact the server every 20 minutes. When the user connects

Paul, I think you are referring to IC33355, which was closed SUG. I do not know the details behind the closure, but it was closed that way presumably due to the complexity (despite the seemingly simple problem description) of addressing the issue. I have not been able to reproduce your symptoms.
