Hello All!
I just received the good news that we will be moving our TSM mainframe
environment to an AIX open systems environment. I will be using ACSLS 7.1
and Gresham EDT along with LTO2 tape drives in an STK SL8500. Does anyone
have a similar configuration and any advice for this setup? Also,

Not necessarily. The Ultrium roadmap:

Same experience here -
Buying a "cheap" library is like knowing you've accepted the "low bidder"

We've been through exactly the same analysis, same strategy, same arguments,
and fortunately have always had the same results - more cost effective in

Your posting caught my eye with 6 years and 10 different

We have been on TSM(adsm) for almost 8 years now. When the
system was first speced out, they did some cost analysis and decided
that the 3494 tape library with the 3590 tape drives were the best

We have outgrown our 3583 and 3575s, so I'm looking for a new tape

Matt,
I started using TSM fresh here in December 2003 on a Redhat Linux ES 2.1 kernel
2.4.9-e.27, on an IBM Intel x335 e-server. Have been running TSM server for Linux
5.2.2.2 with an IBM 3582 TapeLib (two LTO2/LTO1 fiber connected drives), a 7200 SAN,
with server fiber optic cards etc.

Well normally offsite reclamation will use the onsite tapes as input. So
you normally don't checkin your offsite tapes for offsite reclamation - they
stay offsite and the process reads your onsite tapes.
I would check the activity log for other error messages.

"Offsite volume SPL500L1" is the main clue here - some of your offsite
tapes need reclamation, but for fairly obvious reasons that reclamation
can't happen right now.
Check in those tapes to your library and the reclamation will start up for

Hey all,
We're currently considering replacing our 2 very large AIX TSM servers with
a large number (maybe 10 or so) of smaller, Linux based servers. The reason
for the change is to reduce the impact of hardware failure, allow for
database maintenance within a reasonable window and (less important

Hi,
Have been backing up our storage pools of late using LTO tapes in
our tape library IBM 3584. Was attempting to backup the storage pools
(diskpool and tapepool) to LTO2 tapes this morning (as part of a backup
schedule) but it was unsuccessful. The LTO2 tapes were labelled correctly

No, that is not the real issue. This is what I kept trying to explain to
IBM.
There is no communication failure, as far as I can see, other than the AIX
system saying the LM is not reponding in a timely fashion. When this
occurs, AIX says the box is offline. I can ping each other from both

send an exact error message ...
if you can, use db2adutl to list active version backups exits in TSM from db2 and You
need to use same time stamp while restoring. Hope this helps.
