When we first had problems with this, this was our thought:
By default, the inittab entry for "dsmc sched" was respawn.
When "dsmc sched" does a check in every 12 hours, it actually spawns a
child process to hold its place in line, and then does a check with the
server. ( a work around by Tivoli

Has anyone used STK's service offering to auto-magically convert Reels (the

We do even better, we also have omniback in the mix. Just configure your SAN

ACSLS will accept requests from all these servers and mount the tapes as

Hi,
Why dont you use the resourceutilization parameter in the dsm.opt file and
set it to 4 (try to go up to the maximum 10, and look where you get the best
performance..) - so your client will run 4 sessions within one.. no need to
start 4 seperate sessions.. the client will also decide what file

Hi,
I'm backing up a NAS device with 1M+ files. As other
posts indicate, the only way to get any performance in
this setup is to split the file backups across
multiple sessions. In my case I have two backup hosts,
each running two backup streams. I can start each of

Hi all,
A question on sharing a 3494-Library :
We have one 3494-Tape Library with 8 SCSI-Attached 3590E-drives. The Library
is connected to an AIX-Server via rs232. The library is only used by TSM.
Now we bought an extension Frame D22 with 4 FC-connected 3592-drives. These

A frequently asked question...
There is no command that will provide you with pertinent volume names.
See "Restoral preview" in http://people.bu.edu/rbs/ADSM.QuickFacts
for verbiage on this.
Howdy folks,

Hi Rob,
You can find it in the install directory in the baclient folder.
Its possible that you must set the check box for the adminclient by the
instllation of the client.
Hope I've help

If you are referring to the administrative command line interface, then
you don't need anything else: the dsmadmc program on AIX can communicate
with any TSM server, regardless of the operating system on which the
server runs.
As someone else has already noted, the admin CLI is also available for
When u install the BA Client you should choose Custom install and choose

Rob,
AFIR, you should get dsmadmc when performing a custom install from TSM
client on your machine. It's not installed by default.

I had a similar problem on AIX, Sun and Linux.
I believe it may by network-related.
Re-starting "dsmc sched " fixes the problem.
On all my servers I re-start dsmc 5 mins before
a scheduled start of operation using cron.
It is a band-aid solution but it works fine.
I would gladly hear from others
On 4.3 I had to implement a workaround using sudo and a check in the
/etc/profile. In 5.x there is better integration and if you use the
latest openssh from developerworks ssh will integrate better:
