Hello everyone,
Just a question about how to increase tape data copy speed. We are getting
a tape copy speed of 15 gb/hr
on stk-9840 drives with stk-9710 library. The tapes can run at a speed of
10 MB/sec which count to 36 GB/hr. We once when adsm-db is small, got a
speed of tape copy in 23 mi

I noticed this bit of info in the readme:

Dwight's response about getting info from accounting records is the best,
detailed info source for backup, archive, and HSM usage. You sho
make sure accounting is set on and then just gather the statistics from your
accounting records...

Hi Richard and Maria,
Thanks for your info. I believe I should set it EXPInterval to 0 to
eliminate the problem.

The Force is not that strong in this advisor, Phillip: you'll have
to do a Query OPTions in your server and tell me. According to the
server Admin Ref, the default is 24 (hours) these days.

You need to define the server option EXPINTERVAL to 0
A value of 0 means that expiration must be started with the EXPIRE INVENTORY
command. The default is 24.
otherwise the expiration will start every 24 hours after the server is
initialized.

Hi all,
We have a admin schedule to run at 08:00 each day, after the
expire_inventory schedule started and finished, there is a EXPIRATION

start it? Is it related with "SET MAXSCHEDSESSIONS"?
Thanks in advance for your help

Please let me know how this turns out! I have a customer with a very

What type of robot, what is your server platform and software level?
I run ADSM on AIX, I run the MOVE DRMEDIA as you describe below daily,
before the tapes are actually put back in the robot. TSM does not call for
those tapes to be mounted when I run MOVE DRMEDIA.

Go around DRM. You can update their access to readwrite and TSM will
scratch them. But at that point they become scratch tapes outside the
library which TSM cannot track.

Here's the deal, we've got tons of tapes offsite, that are recalled daily as
the data expires, and tapes are reclaimed. Unfortunately, we've ran out of
space inside of the tape library, and are unable to put the tapes back in,
and the tapes are sitting beside the library.

There was some discussion about using RAID with TSM. You can read it all in
the archives by doing a search using the keyword RAID at:

Hope this helps.

unload manuell the tape from DLT-drive and put the tape in the

Next step update the drive with update drive 7337 drive1 online=yes or

We've done the SSA disconnect and reconnect trick and found it pretty slick.
It is really good if you are in production because you can install the
server on the new machine test to make sure it is installed ok. Switch over
in about half an hour and be running again with just a little break

One should use a database backup and restore to do this, rather than
dump-load, as the latter are salvage utilities. Or...

Hi All,
I have the similar on 7337 with 2 x DLT7000 drive.
A few days ago, a tape A was mounted in drive 117 (tape A was from slot 5),
operator placed a scratch tape B in slot 5 without noticing tape A in slot

I'm very pleased to move 5 ADSM servers to new machines until end of year. In
order to be prepared to this interesting task I am evaluating some ways to go.
Right now I am trying a dump/loaddb of one of the lareger ADSM databases.
Database size is about 70 GB, 550,000,000 entries. Dump db on a RS
Looks like that node was trying to start up at that time but had a problem.
Try stopping the schduler service, resyncing your password for that node
with the dsmcutil command and then restarting your scheduler.
